Main position objectives

The Electrical Designer provides the highest quality electrical design of control systems for the Maag family of equipment.  Working independently but supported by others, the incumbent is the electrical design representative for the customer’s controls equipment.

Position description – Tasks, responsibilities, competencies

  • Reviews all company procedural documents and work instructions to determine critical attributes of design.
  • Reviews all customer / internal specifications documents, and P&ID drawings to fully understand the scope of each project.
  • Adheres to contractual specifications by following local regulations and standards.
  • Leads technical discussions regarding design issues or proposed changes, internal and external to the company.
  • Works closely with mechanical engineering, software engineering and manufacturing counterparts for successful completion of complex products.
  • Performs necessary calculations in preparation for the control system design.
  • Works with suppliers to obtain information on commercial components to be used with equipment.
  • Develops eletrical schematics and enclosure layouts using 2D CAD drawings.
  • Creates bills of material for ordering, manufacturing, and assembly.
  • Revises drawings as needed based on customer requests, change orders, and markups made during testing.
  • Meets deadlines and communicates their progress to superiors in their department.
  • Works OT when required to meet project deadlines.
  • Develops strong relationships with all departments in the company.

Work Environment

Work in this position is in an office and a factory floor environment, either locally or at a customer site.  The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, hot equipment, hot and cold weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud and PPE may be required.

Job Specification

Education

Mandatory

  • An Associate’s Degree or higher in electrical design (or equivalent / comparable work experience)
  • CAD software experience
  • Able to read and explain manufacturing drawing, schematics, and P&ID drawings.

Desirable

  • Work experience designing electrical control systems

Professional experience (description incl. No. of years)

Desirable

  • Experience in electrical controls design is highly desirable.
  • Bill of Material creation / interaction
  • Experience in (Classified Locations) is a plus
