Electrical Engineering Manager

Are you looking for a new electrical engineering team to mentor and manage? We are currently seeking an experienced, hands-on Sr. Electrical Engineering Manager to manage and grow our electrical engineering department. In this senior level role, you will provide technical guidance and expertise to the team including design, development, and testing of electrical systems and components as well as review and approval of electrical engineering documentation, including schematics, wire harness designs, test plans, and system specifications. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 8-10 years’ electrical engineering experience with at least 3-5 years managing an engineering team.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the electrical engineering department while providing technical guidance and expertise to the team.
  • Mentor and develop junior level engineers, providing support in their professional development and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members to provide feedback, address concerns, and provide career guidance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineering, software engineering, and product management, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Participate in departmental planning efforts, including resource allocation, budgeting, and scheduling, to ensure successful project delivery and meet business objectives.
  • Lead recruitment efforts for the electrical engineering department by interviewing and hiring top talent.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design, development, and testing of electrical systems and components for refuse collections vehicles.
  • Review and approve electrical engineering documentation, including schematics, wire harness designs, test plans, and system specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Engage in deep technical work, such as designing and implementing electrical systems and components, troubleshooting, and resolving issues, and conducting tests and evaluations.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in electrical engineering technology, industry trends, and emerging technologies, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Compliance with all applicable government safety and environmental standards as they pertain to motor vehicles or heavy-duty trucks.
  • Requires excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to be applied in design, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Requires the ability to simultaneously organize and successfully execute multiple project responsibilities.

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar; MBA or advanced degree is beneficial
  • 8-10 years of Electrical Engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • 3-5 years’ experience leading/managing an engineering department within manufacturing.
  • Experience in: Testing and Developing PLC logic from concept to operational use with any of the following PLCs: Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, AutomationDirect, Mitsubishi, Omron, Aromat, Toshiba, HMI or SCADA programming and configuration of any of the following software packages Wonderware, Rockwell, Intellution, GE Cimplicity, Ci-Tech, Iconics, Siemens, US Data, etc. or other mobile-equipment controller such as Vasso, HED, I/O Controls, EcoMat, etc.
  • Experience with wiring schematic design, wiring harness design and dealing with harness vendors.
  • Broad industry knowledge with a strategic understanding of technology, and architecture.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and informal communication skills, including ability to communicate complex technical terms using non-technical language.
  • Executive presence, excellent people skills, strong leadership capabilities.
  • Results-oriented with an emphasis on both individual and team accountability.
  • Willingness to go out into the field or onto the production floor to resolve issues and gain insights up to 20% travel.
