Senior Applications Engineer

BPI Bearing Engineers are responsible for executing repair orders and new built for field retrofit which entails inspecting incoming “used” parts and to provide repair procedures or specifying the manufacturing of new parts by reverse engineering or replacement solution to resolve customer issues. 

They will act as the primary customer liaison for resolution of technical matters and the development of products for customer projects by interpreting specifications and design requirements and developing those into an engineered solution. They will assist / instruct Designers and check assembly drawings for accuracy of design intent and information.

 

What You Will Bring

  • Master's Degree in a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering - ideally relating to rotating / turbo machinery or fluid film bearings, or Bachelors Degree plus;
  • A minimum of 5 years' of post-graduate, full-time work experience in engineering and design of rotating equipment; ideally involving fluid film bearings / rotor dynamics and applying FEA.
  • People who have experience of working with and undertaking root cause analysis RCA on the following types of equipment are likely to be of particular interest; Pumps, compressors, gearboxes, turbines, generators and motors.
  • Working knowledge/experience with measurement tools such as micrometers, depth gauge, calipers etc. is desirable.
  • Experience with using simulation software; NASTRAN/ANSYS and MATLAB.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD.

 

What You Will Do

  • Prepare engineering proposals for new, repair and field retrofit projects; identify requirements, analyze product designs, interpret results and determine optimum solution to the customers’ problem
  • Develop close working relationships with customers’ technical contacts, ensuring that business opportunities are recognized and responded to appropriately at an early stage. Significant customer interaction with respect to the engineering and management of projects, pre and post contract.
  • Participate in customer meetings, RCA meetings. Respond to customer concerns and resolve any technical problems to ensure that company products are working effectively and the customer is satisfied with the service provided.  Provide feedback to relevant company departments to determine root cause / corrective and preventive actions.
  • Perform Rotor Dynamic Analysis, bearing and brush seal calculations for customer proposed field issues and retrofit.
  • Check general arrangement contract drawings for accuracy of dimension and detail, and manage their subsequent delivery / approval with customers.
  • Support engineering process development, engineering work instruction, design and incoming inspection procedure and checklist, and design for manufacturability efforts through specific assignments as directed by Engineering Leaders.
  • Lead fluid film bearing training seminars at customer and/or internal sites as needed and be able to fine-tune the training to the specific needs of the audience.
