General Function:    

Responsible for supporting the development, specification, design, and testing of machinery and equipment related to Belvac Engineered Machinery.  This includes mechanical concept development, detailed design and analysis, engineering drawing creation and checking, Bills of Material development and issuance, Change Order initiation and completion, and Value Engineering for all new and existing Belvac products.  Assist Assembly, Service, and Sales in technical discussions on products.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design of mechanical components and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor and Vault 2020 or later.
  • Peer review new designs and adaptations of existing designs. Attend cross-functional design reviews and lead when required.
  • Own small-scale projects and take them from concept to implementation. Obtain buy-in from more senior engineers.
  • Conduct analysis on a specific item or in support of a particular project such as bearing life calculations, timing diagrams, etc.
  • Value Engineer designs to achieve cost targets while maintaining/improving function, under limited supervision.
  • Compiling a machine package (Bill of Material, Drawings, Recommended Spares List, etc.) in accordance with customers specifications.
  • Creation and maintenance of Product Line Bills of Materials.
  • Under limited supervision, support the build and commissioning of Product Line Portfolio by addressing in-house and in-field inquiries related to design items.
  • Under limited supervision, support Purchasing and Production Control by addressing inquiries related to mechanical design related items. Evaluate non-conforming parts, approve substitutions for product line.

 

Education

BSME or equivalent

 

Experience

 

Required

  • Two (2) or more years of proven experience in a comparable role.
  • Proficient in 3D solid modeling and drafting software such as Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, or ProE.
  • Competent use of document control systems – preferably Autodesk Vault
  • Working knowledge of industry design drafting standards such as ANSI Y14.5 (1994 or later)
  • Experience in the design of Mechanical Machinery.
  • Experienced with designing parts to shop fabrication methods and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of materials, and finishes.
  • Good technical communication (verbal and written)
  • Competent using Microsoft Office software. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project, or equivalent.  

 

Desired

  • Proficient with Autodesk Inventor 2020 (or later)
  • Proficient use of Autodesk Vault
  • Proficient use of industry design drafting standards such as ANSI Y14.5 (1994 or later)
  • Competence assigning tolerances and working knowledge stack-up analysis.
  • Experience in designing to OSHA or CE safety standards.
  • Some experience in the use of Quality and Engineering Tools like FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, and Statistical Process Control, among others.
  • Able to conduct Finite Element Analysis on mechanical designs.
  • Four (4) years or more of industrial experience in the design of High-Speed Rotating Machinery or related field.
