Summary

The Production Supervisor leads and develops a vision and direction for the future.  Directs and coordinates activities of production department(s) in processing materials or manufacturing products in industrial organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Recommend and initiate rearrangement of process alignment for continuous improvement to include reducing costs, cycle time and improve quality of existing operational layout to create a productive working environment for all employees.  Working closely with team members and other resources as a method of determining what changes are needed.
  • Coach and mentor subordinates
  • Executes production schedule.
  • Assist with long and short range business planning.
  • Ensure a working environment for employees, which provides effective direction, leadership, and communication for 2nd and 3rd production shifts.
  • Provide effective feedback to all focus factory associates to support improvement opportunities and performance.
  • Develops and executes plans that ensure all established safety, quality, delivery and financial commitments are met.
  • Act as a role model to focus factory personnel and be recognized as a leader within the manufacturing site.
  • Work with the Leadership Team for hiring and discipline of employees.
  • Carries out and is supportive of all company policies.
  • Serve as the liaison for production employees and all levels of management and operations in order to communicate problems and suggestions to appropriate company personnel.
  • Provide performance appraisals to appropriate personnel to maintain an effective and efficient production process.
  • Monitor the work performance of off-shift focus factory associates to ensure employee’s skill levels meet company expectations.
  • Recommend employees for further training to improve the employee’s skill level in accordance with company expectations.
  • Determine and monitor the overall resource capacity (personnel and equipment) for the focus factory and set priorities to maintain production expectations.
  • Evaluate and monitor discrepant material levels of the focus factory with regard to; product quality and defect prevention, product disposition, rework, repair, and defect data analysis in order to maintain customer and company quality standards.
  • Conducts production meetings with planners and cell technicians to assign work and review activities.
  • Communicates and oversees ISO procedures.
  • Recruits and develops employees, working with Human Resources, to ensure that performance and financial objectives are achieved.
  • Implement and support all “Lean Manufacturing” initiatives.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
     

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 20-40 employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Requires an associate’s degree and 2-4 years of experience in the field.
 

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
