I.                    SUMMARY:

 

Properly clean tin, and babbitt ferrous and non ferrous materials in a wide variety of sizes of bearings.

 

II.                 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Receive work assignments from Focused Factory Manager, Leadman, or Planner/Scheduler.
  • Works from routings, drawings, process sheets, setup sheets, and verbal instructions from Supervisor.
  • Prepares bearings for babbitting:  Properly clean in acid and water tanks for specified period of time, Dip in tin pot for specified amount of time.
  • Mount bearings on proper plate fixture on machine and pour correct amount of babbitt cool with water and remove bearing from plate.
  • Static pouring of babbitt on pads, etc.  Use correct fixture and mount on table for pouring.
  • Maintain ample tin in tin tank and correct amount of babbitt in babbitt pot.
  • Report any noticed discrepancies to Focused Factory Manager, or Leadman.
  • Employees must wear protective eye wear either tight fitting chemical goggles or face shields and insulated gloves, at the open tanks.  “Meaning” when rinsing parts with door open.  Putting parts in and/or taking them out of the tin tank, and when pouring and/or spinning parts with babbitt.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Performs work of an equal or lower classification on a temporary basis as required.
  • Perform work assignments in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for turning in rate changes (low or high).
  • Fill out final inspection reports as required.
  • Notify supervisor of damaged material and/or any discrepancies on the number of parts.
  • Operate CRT for Data Entry.
  • Maintain all tanks per specified procedures and record results.

 

 

III.               SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

V.                  EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

VI.               LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

VII.             MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

VIII.          REASONING ABILITY:

 

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
