Position Summary

The New Product Development Intern for Destaco is responsible for assisting the engineering team in product test setup, product testing, and documenting test results.  Products range consists of mechanical and electrical robotic automation equipment such as grippers, rotaries, slides and tool changers.  He/she will assist a new product engineer and follow standard engineering practices.  He/She will assist in completing various product test procedures for new products and modification of products to study performance impact.  The New Product Development Intern will review findings with global engineering teams on test results and engage with engineering teams to brainstorm engineering solutions.   He/She will also review technical documents on web, literature, price books, CAD models to verify data integrity.  He/she will work closely within and communicate across various functional teams within Destaco to support the successful development and launch of new products.

 

The Engineering Intern reports to the Global Product Director, Auburn Hills, MI. The position requires the ability to work and communicate across the global engineering team, with other departments in the plant operation, and across the regions with various levels of the organization.

 

Key Job Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Assists with new product development including research, testing and documentation.
  • Actively participates in performing product tests and documents test results and overall product performance.
  • Tests include but not limited to; general product inspection, dimensional tolerances, life cycle, leak testing, grip force, accuracy and repeatability, electrical tests.  
  • Assists with the review of, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials and online CAD files, catalog artwork, text and specifications and price books. 
  • Participates in regular Product Development reviews, reports and project priorities.
  • Follows up with internal resources per the product development checklists.
  • Participates in Vendor discussion on new components and manufacturing processes
  • Performs specialized testing on new or existing product per customer requests under guidance of an Engineer or Product Director.
     

Job Requirements:                                                                                                     

Experience:

  • Requires enrollment in pre-engineering classes and high interest in mechatronic engineering, working on testing and collaborating on engineering projects.
