POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director of Engineering at Espy LLC is a senior-level position responsible for leading a
team of approximately 15 software and RF hardware engineers responsible for the development
and support of our Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) software and hardware platforms. The Director
of Engineering will oversee all engineering activities, including software and hardware
development, and ensure the successful execution of IRAD and customer NRE projects while
aligning with the company's strategic goals. This role requires a strong combination of software
and RF hardware technical expertise, leadership, and management skills.
The Director of Engineering will be expected to lead, manage, and mentor the engineering team
and at times roll up your sleeves to assist in solving tough engineering problems, making
recommendations, and facilitating problem solving. The Director of Engineering will own the
New Product Development (NPD) process, applying innovative processes and technology
development to unlock accelerated growth for Espy products.
Duties (including but not limited to):
· Contribute to the development of Espy’s strategic plan (STRAP) and implement
engineering activities in support of the STRAP to support the company's business
objectives.
· Collaborate with Espy leadership, engineering department team, and other Espy team
members in the development of technology and product roadmaps, then execute the
roadmaps using Espy’s NPD processes according to the plan’s timeline and budget.
· Lead, manage, and mentor a team of software and hardware engineers, fostering a
collaborative and high-performing work environment.
· Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of software and hardware
development projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
· Maintain a strong understanding of software and hardware development technologies,
best practices, and industry trends.
· Collaborate with other departments, such as product management, sales, and
marketing, to align technical initiatives with business needs.
· Ensure adherence to quality standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best
practices (e.g. ISO, CMMC) throughout the product development lifecycle.
· Manage budgets, resources, and timelines effectively to optimize productivity and deliver projects within allocated resources.
· Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the engineering department.
QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY:
· Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical area: (Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics); Master’s degree preferred
· Systems engineering experience integrating hardware and software functionality
· Minimum 5 years’ experience managing software and/or hardware engineering teams with at least 6 direct reports
· Experience designing and implementing software using C++ in a Linux environment (10+ years). Experience with TCP and UDP network communications (Espy LLC is a software-heavy organization).
· Experience with engineering management tools (e.g. git, JIRA)
· Experience with Agile engineering development processes and leading development sprint activities
· Current TS/SCI security clearance, or ability to obtain (requires US citizenship)
· Preferred: Experience with designing and/or integrating RF signal acquisition and processing hardware
· Preferred: Working knowledge of applied signal processing (filtering, data transforms, multi-dimensional signal processing, data visualization)
· Preferred: In-depth understanding of timing services (GPS, NTP)
· Highly Preferred: Familiarity with Radio Frequency Machine Learning (RFML)
· Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to clearly present information through the spoken and written word with all levels of an organization, including Corporate Leadership.
· Planning and Organization Skills: Demonstrated ability to organize and schedule activities and tasks, integrating time constraints and resource availability.
· Teamwork Skills: Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of people to achieve common goals, objectives, and team commitments.
· Decision Making and Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability solving complex management, technical and resource problems while exhibiting a realistic understanding
of issues, making and standing by data-driven decisions while communicating the “WHY” of the decisions.
