Position Summary

 

The Engineering Operations Manager’s primary role is to provide the engineering team with overall engineering day-to-day operations and ongoing continuous improvement leadership. In this role you will develop strategy, implement change, create programs responsive to external environment, and participate in cross-functional business and cultural development that will deliver excellence and ensure that all engineering departments, managers, project owners and supervisors deliver. This position will be based from our Austin, Texas headquarters and report to the Vice President of Engineering.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Serve as point of contact, coordinator and facilitator for various Engineering ongoing operational and business activities: 
    • Assist the Vice President in developing the annual operating plan for Global Engineering including OpEx/CapEx plans by site, director, for labor and non-labor controllable spend.
    • Partner with regional finance leads and the Engineering Department Heads to oversee Global Engineering budget forecasts/actuals. Directly coordinate controllable budget forecasting (OPEX and CAPEX) and actuals tracking across the different engineering departments , and ensure that NRE/CapEx offsets have been properly identified.
  • Partner with Program Management and the Engineering Department Heads to ensure Capacity Planning tools, process, and data are in place to address resource planning requirements for the organization. 
  • Partner with Program Management and the Engineering Department Heads to ensure Time tracking tools, process, and data are in place to capture actual time spent on programs and enable effective R&D investment reporting for the organization. 
  • Partner with the Engineering Department Heads to ensure third party vendor agreements are in place and associated Purchase Orders are up to date to support contractor/temporary staffing needs.
  • Manage facilities projects for the Global Engineering team across our multiple sites to ensure facilities issues are appropriately managed and sites can operate effectively.
  • Facilitate the Strategic Goal Deployment process including goal & milestone definition, monthly reports, and ad hoc meetings as required to ensure goals are tracked and successfully reported via defined KPI’s at monthly reviews. 
  • Coordinate and facilitate Engineering Leadership regular meetings including Weekly Staff and Quarterly Leadership Meetings. 
  • Plan and manage regular Engineering communications: quarterly Global Engineering All Hands, monthly updates, and other communications as needed. 
  • Collects and packages all required periodic reporting information such as monthly accomplishments summaries, awards lists, and other reports.
  • Lead an Engineering Continuous Improvement (CI) Council with a goal of developing strategic engineering  processes that drive continuous improvement; set agenda, select participants, create/distribute minutes and track completion of follow-on actions.
  • Coordinate and lead other Global Engineering operational projects as needed.
     
    The successful candidate will have/possess: 
  • A strong understanding of cost center financial management and reporting. Highly desired would be a candidate with a combination of FP&A background mixed with excellent project management skills;
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; Ability to balance teamwork with drive for results. Ability to lead diverse global teams leveraging resources outside of direct control
  • Ability to achieve results while partnering with, and coordinating the efforts of, a high-energy, strong willed and passionate team of engineering department heads 
  • Excellent strategic and analytical thinking combined with superior tactical execution skills
  • Ability to see problems, prioritize where to invest time, and address issues without significant direction required by the Engineering VP while balancing ensuring the VP is  kept up to date on progress and issues
  • Strong MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to build complex models in Excel, including Pivot Tables and complex formulas. Effective presentation development and delivery skills.
  • Strong ERP systems user/knowledge of Oracle (or similar) preferred
     

Candidate Experience and Qualifications

 

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree either in Finance or Engineering disciplines (EE, ME, CS, etc) is required. If candidate doesn’t have a Finance background, then MBA desired as an alternative.
  • Candidate should have 5-7 years of experience in roles containing the above responsibilities. Similar roles may be called Chief of Staff, or Business Operations.

  • Ability to travel internationally as needed, though travel will not be a significant part of this role
