The HR Manager/HRBP for Manufacturing/Operations is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in the designated business units. The position serves as a consultant to management on human resource-related issues. The successful HR Manager acts as an employee champion and change agent. The role assesses and anticipates HR-related needs. Communicating needs proactively with our HR department and business management, the HR Manager/HRBP seeks to develop integrated solutions. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization. The HR Manager/HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business unit's financial position, its midrange plans, its culture and its competition. They will demonstrate highly effective communication, organization and will champion the company’s core values. This position is responsible for aligning the HR initiatives with the business strategy and will act as a thought partner to the operations leader. This position reports to the Sr. Manager Human Resources, for North America.


Essential Functions

  • Partner with the Director of Manufacturing Operations across the North America region to deliver HR initiatives that align with the business strategy
  • Implement world class HR practices to include: performance management, succession planning, talent management and organizational design/capability
  • Develop leadership capabilities of the Operations front line management (leadership development program)
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development)
  • Design and deliver operations/manufacturing specific employee engagement initiatives and helps drive retention
  • Review and align HR policies and processes with market benchmark data and best practices in the context of a manufacturing industry
  • Design processes and tools for employee productivity and developing a culture safety
  • Develop a culture of diversity and inclusion
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team to develop solutions, programs and policies
  • Manages and resolves simple to complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations
  • Acts as an ambassador of the DFS culture and integrates the importance of how we work into the HR strategy and functional support
  • Develops contract/offer terms for new hires, promotions and transfers
  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning
  • Identifies training needs for business unit and individual executive coaching needs.
  • Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success and follows up to ensure training objectives are met
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance, including wage and hour laws. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.


Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in a manufacturing/plant HR leadership role (preferably with multiple locations)
  • Experience supporting a large and complex manufacturing function in a global company or Fortune 500 company
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis and design, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment and wage and hour laws
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Communication or related discipline
  • Experience optimizing plant efficiencies
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Experience working with Canada/Canadian employment law preferred
  • PHR and/or SHRM-CP certification(s) preferred

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones. This role will interface with manufacturing and will require frequent interaction in a regulated environment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Core business days/hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position may require long hours and occasional weekend work as workloads and business needs demand.



Position is based out of DFS' headquarters in Austin, Texas. Some domestic and/or global travel may be expected
