JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION TITLE: Embedded Controls Design Engineer Level-2

 

SUMMARY:

Embedded Controls Design Engineer is part of the Design Engineering team, which is responsible for innovation in vehicle service products (vehicle lifts, wheel service equipment, etc.).  Position is responsible for the design and specification of embedded control systems for new product development and design enhancements in existing products.  This position will interface closely with other areas of the business, including Product Management, Operations, Customer Service, and Supply Chain.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Creating and deploying product improvements to meet customer expectations.
  • Implementing test plans and code documentation.
  • Understanding and designing to relevant product safety standards.
  • Maintaining product software code for long-term sustainability and quality.
  • Creating and adhering to project timelines.
  • Supporting customer service and field technicians for product issue resolution.

Designs embedded controls for new and existing products, including the development of control algorithms, firmware development, and hardware interfacing

Works with product design team, parts suppliers, and customer service regarding the interpretation of control requirements and building of control systems, as well as field support: including component specification, answering questions, testing, etc.

Selects and implements software architecture, hardware platforms, and operating systems

Creates and maintains documentation, including design specifications and test records

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • 4-8 years of experience in embedded programming.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to model, simulate and implement fundamental control algorithms.
  • C Programming.
  • Understanding of electrical circuits and schematics.
  • Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight time constraints.
  • Results oriented with strong organizational skills.

 

 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Hands on experience with control theory, especially embedded control for hydraulics, is desirable.
  • Atmel Atmega programming experience.
  • Experience with embedded real-time operating systems, especially FreeRTOS.
  • Experience with functional safety design standards, especially ISO13849.
  • Experience with source code control tools, especially Azure DevOps and Git.
  • PLC programming experience.
  • Experience working in a Manufacturing environment.
