SCOPE: CNC programmer/Set-up Operator III is to take a existing print or model of a particular component and determine how to best optimize the machining of this component. The qualified individual must consider many factors, such as what machine to use, the proper tooling to cut the part and more. The operator will take the part and bring it into a software and apply tool paths to generate a G-code, which is the specific language the machine communicates from.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read and understand blueprint readings, including GD&T symbols
  • Program, set up and run Swiss CNC tooling for use with different applications
  • Develop and document deep understanding and familiarity with Swiss/or dual turn CNC machines, including how they work, special codes, machine limitations and the various settings
  • Examine components, pre-process and design work methods to improve throughput
  • Work as set-up and run operator to prove out methodology using general knowledge of tooling
  • Set up, perform edits, operate and oversee CNC machines
  • Experience in observation of machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance situations
  • Troubleshoot machines and light maintenance
  • Work from blueprints, specifications and process sheets
  • Knowledge/experience with basic tool sharpening and able to make necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards
  • Hold component specifications on various types of machines and equipment
  • Participate in Quality and Customer/Supplier audits
  • Coordinate, as required, outside equipment manufacturer representative repair and problem-solving
  • Provide hands-on job training and troubleshooting to operators
  • All other duties as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; trade school a plus
  • 5 years’ experience in programming
  • Minimum 5 years' CNC Setup and Operate experience with Swiss or Dual turn CNC machines
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time/Ability to lift 40+ lbs. continuously
  • Detail-oriented, organized, creative and tech-savvy
