POSITION SUMMARY:
The Database Administrator is the owner of multiple relational databases, responsible for strategy, advancement, automation, and performance optimization within Amazon Web Services (AWS). You are a master at deep diving into explain plans, identifying problematic queries and stored procedures, reducing IOPS. As a member of the DevOps team, you’ll have a passion for automating boring activities, and implementing infrastructure as code. This role will work closely with software engineering, providing detailed feedback to developers on code improvement strategies relating to the database.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Install and maintain the performance of database servers.
- Develop processes for optimizing database security.
- Set and maintain database standards.
- Manage database access.
- Database performance and capacity analysis/tuning.
- Install, upgrade, and manage database applications.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.
- Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.
- Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
- Create automation for repeating database tasks.
- Monitor and maintain system up time and performance in accordance with established SLAs.
- Recommend data strategy, structure, and tools for product performance.
- Assist building ESG/3rd Eye Enterprise Data Hub supporting customer facing and internal data analytics requirements.
- Works as part of the DevOps Team (additional training provided if necessary)
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Computer Science is preferred but will consider experience in lieu of education
- 5+ years experience in database administration or engineering
- Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
- Strong command of SQL an SQL server tools
- Extensive experience with database technologies (MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
- Hands-on experience with Cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) a plus
- Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS
- Preferred experience or knowledge of Bash, PowerShell, and Python scripts
- Strong Linux knowledge and hands-on experience
- Proven experience in database tuning and capacity management.
