Assembly Team Lead

Assign and coordinate the daily production activity of manufacturing personnel. Maintain and coordinate training to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the assembly and crating of equipment as it pertains to the shipping schedule.  Coordinate daily production activities to meet dynamic schedule demands and to maximize efficiencies/control cost. Develop and maintain an employee-involved, flexible, team-oriented environment.  Control inventory accurately and timely. Hands on position that will work alongside co-workers 50% of the time.

 

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Assign and monitor daily production tasks to personnel within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • A demonstrated command of all established Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Act as a champion in providing solutions to problems encountered in daily assembly activities.
  • Lead daily team huddle meetings to discuss: safety, quality and deliveries.
  • Drive improved operational processes to reduce cost, improve quality, and increase throughput using strongly developed problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Initiate and close out all job paperwork as required.
  • Implement SER’s as required.
  • Train employees by developing and utilizing sound interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate and coordinate part shortages with the associated buyer and the Production Manager.
  • Relay order change and modification notices to personnel.
  • Coordinate the final crating of assembled equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is tested as established and identified by the build schedule.
  • Create flexibility within the workforce by cross-training for skills diversity in all areas of production.
  • Promote and communicate Lean Manufacturing initiatives; support the company’s goals in implementing Lean concepts.
  • Passionately promote and enforce established safety policies and practices among all employees.
  • Maintain daily communication with shipping coordinator.
  • Establish, control, and maintain replenishment of inventory utilizing kanban, CMI, VMI, and other methods as assigned.
  • Maintain control and accuracy of inventory by conducting weekly cycle counts and periodic audits of locations and BOM’s.
  • Monitor and implement Engineering Change Notices as required.
  • Management of consigned inventories.
  • Continually maintain and promote 5-S program.
  • Coordinate and oversee full machinery setup.
  • Coordinate and control equipment and inventory required for trade shows and display/marketing purposes.
  • Support other PDQ departments such as engineering and/or procurement to implement product development and cost reduction projects.
  • Maintain neat and clean work areas in all areas of responsibility.

 

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assigning work among production personnel.  Serve as a resource for solving problems.  Provide input into employee performance evaluations and drive individual career growth of assigned employees.

 

Education Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An associate degree or equivalent training is preferred.

 

Experience Requirements:

  • Blueprint reading skills are required.
  • Must possess strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Prior experience in use of general hand and power tools is required.
  • Computer proficiency is required, preferably with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  • Prior experience in an ISO certified, capital equipment assembly environment is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of the metric system of measurement is required.
  • Prior experience using Oracle is preferred.
  • Experience with the application of Lean manufacturing principles is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Must possess strong communication skills and be able to work effectively with other departments.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Quality Responsibilities:

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to product, process and quality systems.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Verify the implementation of solutions.
  • Control further processing, delivery or installation of non-conforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to normal office conditions like telephone, personal computer, reports and files.  The employee will also be exposed to normal conditions of a manufacturing facility.   The employee will be regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee will be required to stand for long periods of time.  The employee will use his/her hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and climb or balance and reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee will frequently lift, carry or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 70 pounds.  When working on machinery, employee will bend, stoop and crouch on a regular basis and constantly move about to coordinate work.  The employee is required to regularly set up, adjust, assemble, control, test and operate machinery
