Job Summary:

The person in this position is primarily responsible for performing electro-mechanical design in the development and support of PDQ vehicle wash products.  This job includes concept generation and evaluation, design development, test planning and conduction, product specification and selection, and documentation.  This is conducted under the guidance of the Life Cycle Engineering Manager and other senior engineering staff.


Major Responsibilities/Activities:


·         Provide engineering support to all relevant departments such as Production, Purchasing, Sales, and Marketing through the development, release, and support of PDQ products. Coordinate changes and problems related to projects assigned.

·         Provide creative and innovative electro-mechanical solutions to meet design specifications and solve problems with new and existing designs.  Generate the appropriate documents to support these solutions such as solid models, design specifications,             bills of material (BOM), drawings, etc.

·         Use basic level engineering principles (mechanics, pneumatics, electrical circuits and controls, etc.) to design and to assist in the development and evaluation of equipment designs.  Identify the need for higher level analysis to be performed by                         Engineers in the development of designs.

·         Construct new and maintain existing BOMs for designs and coordinate changes to these throughout the evolution of a design/product.

·         Coordinate and process Special Equipment requests (SERs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) as assigned.

·         Perform designs and generate design output in accordance with customer requirements, project scope requirements, and safety and regulatory requirements such as UL, cUL, and CE.

·         Prepare and perform basic technical studies and test plans for component and system verification.  Participate in component and system testing to confirm and evaluate design compliance with specifications.  At times participate in a hands-on manner             in the building of prototypes for design development.

·         Design, identify, select, and evaluate components and assemblies based on cost, quality, performance, and vendor performance.


Experience Requirements:

·         0-5 years of experience working in a machine design environment

·         Working knowledge of basic design, fabrication and assembly of electro-mechanical hardware, electrical circuits and electrical control systems.

·         Experience in CAD displaying proficient application of engineering drawing communication techniques.  SolidWorks preferred.

·         Knowledge of electrical load calculation, safe electrical design practices, NEC and IEC requirements, UL/cUL, CE EMC and Machinery Safety Directive is required.

·         Proficiency with interpreting and generating fluid control schematics and electrical control schematics.

·         Ability to work effectively with suppliers when matching application requirements with component selection.

·         Associate degree in mechanical design, electrical design, electro-mechanical, or similar field is required.

·         Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
