Position Summary:

Dover is on an exciting journey to enable factory automation and leveraged advanced analytics and connected manufacturing capabilities across its sites to drive productivity and digital transformation. As we build this team we are looking to hire a software field engineer for the Connected Manufacturing Program.


The Software Field Engineer will provide technical and software expertise to support Connected Manufacturing initiatives.  The role will work closely with Operational Excellence team and Operating Company manufacturing teams to identify business needs, understand business case and complete technical assessment of software providers which could include technical project management of software proof of concept at Operating Company sites. The software field engineer will provide software recommendation to Dover Digital management which aligns with 3yr Connected Manufacturing roadmap.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Software Field Engineer, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design connected manufacturing solutions. In this role, you will:

  • Develop strategy, framework, standards and governance to support Dover’s Connected Manufacturing Initiatives
    • Design connected manufacturing architecture
    • Work with teams to define hardware and software specifications with cost optimization, scalability and reliability in mind
    • Create technical specifications and diagrams such as data flow diagrams, end to end diagrams
  • Complete software technical assessment and review
  • Provide Technical Program Management (as needed) to lead proofs-of-concept efforts to determine value propositions
  • Work with remote teams to deliver supporting software and services in sync with launch timelines (as needed)
  • Communicate regularly with management on status, risks and change control
  • Ability to scale the connected manufacturing capabilities across multiple plants globally


Qualifications / Requirements/Desired Characteristics:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial automation or Instrumentation (Preferred)
  • 15 plus years of experience or equivalent demonstrated technical depth of experience
  • Understanding of OPC, SCADA, DCS Systems 
  • Knowledge of Basic IT networking
  • Knowledge of security protocol(s)
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of various ERP and MES data and how it interfaces with the Equipment monitoring and productivity
  • Relevant work experience in technical program/project management in large scale industrial automation initiatives
  • Experience analyzing cost/benefit of feature selection
  • Familiar with manufacturing concepts of OEE, Quality and Plant productivity
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing 4.0 Capabilities in the industry
