Role Purpose
The Senior Security Architect (Cloud & Network), is a strategic and hands-on technical leader responsible for defining, governing, and advancing enterprise-wide cloud and network security architecture across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. This role owns the design and execution of scalable security controls, frameworks, and governance programs that protect the enterprise while enabling speed, innovation, and business growth.
Serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and technology stakeholders, this role translates enterprise security strategy into actionable measurable architecture and controls. The Senior Security Architect drives risk-informed decision-making, operational excellence and continuous improvement across cloud, network, endpoint, and data protection domains.
Key Responsibilities
• Define and lead the enterprise cloud (hybrid & multi-cloud) and network security architecture strategy, directly supporting business objectives, risk reduction, best practice alignment, and technology modernization.
• Serve as a senior security architect and advisor to leaders, influencing architecture decisions and driving adoption of standardized cloud security controls across Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
• Translate enterprise risk appetite into practical, scalable security architectures.
• Design & implement security control frameworks across global cloud and network environments, identifying and prioritizing control applications based on risk and business impact.
• Lead solution architecture for securing sensitive structured and unstructured data in cloud environments, including encryption, access control, and data protection strategies.
• Partner with security control owners, infrastructure, and application teams to redesign, modernize, and implement security solutions across multi-cloud environments.
• Collaborate with IT teams to design & deploy secure configurations for hybrid cloud and the enterprise network.
• Lead and support secure migration initiatives from on-premises platforms to cloud-native architectures.
• Establish and operationalize key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics, and reporting to measure the effectiveness, maturity, and impact of cloud and network security programs.
• Design end-to-end security configuration & vulnerability management processes for cloud and network assets.
• Conduct architecture level risk assessments for cloud and network designs, providing recommendations & guidance.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural patterns to enhance security posture scalability and efficiency.
• Develop & maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, standards, and configuration baselines.
• Participate in leadership steering committees to report and track progress, risks, and security outcomes.
Qualifications
• 10+ years of progressive experience in network, cloud, & application security within large, multinational enterprises.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and securing public cloud architectures.
• 2 or more professional certification(s) in cloud security or networking (e.g. CCSP, CCIE).
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to define & apply controls aligned to enterprise risk without hindering innovation or delivery.
• Deep expertise in cloud service models, automation, orchestration, and leading cloud provider ecosystems.
• Advanced knowledge of networking concepts and protocols including BGP, OSPF, VLAN, DNS, and TCP/IP.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing security controls using native cloud security services.
• Experience with DevSecOps practices, cloud security posture management (CSPM), agile methodologies, and third-party cloud security platforms.
• Strong working knowledge security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, ISO).
• Exceptional written, verbal, and executive communication skills with the ability to operate independently and influence at all levels.
• Proven ability to partner with stakeholders through consulting, negotiation, and relationship management.
• Experience working effectively with globally distributed teams.
Location
• Role is based in Downers Grove, Illinois (Hybrid).
• Approximately 20% travel is required.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Pay Range: $150,000.00 - $180,000.00 annually
This position is eligible to earn a 15% discretionary bonus based on performance metrics and other criteria outlined in our applicable bonus plan.
