Position summary


The position oversees all receiving inspection activities related to safety, quality, and schedule. Additionally, this experienced supplier quality leader will also investigate, evaluate, and resolve supplier quality problems, analyzing defect trends, and lead continuous improvement projects.


In this role the Supplier quality receiving inspection manager will utilize his/her experience and expertise to solve problems and find innovative solutions to quality related issues.


The Supplier quality receiving inspection manager will ensure verification of purchased product and material meet contractual requirements. Responsibilities include process improvement, development, planning, execution of inspection, and personnel management. This position is also a liaison between other departments, functional teams, suppliers and customers.


In a manufacturing environment, you will drive and manage all receiving inspection operations.

Translates customer, and engineering requirements into state-of-the-art manufacturing inspection strategies and processes, resulting in cost-effective inspection processing.

Develops quality-related plans, policies and procedures, maintain safety and regulatory compliance relating to the production facility.

Ensures supplier quality process and procedure requirements are met on a daily basis.


Position Responsibilities


  • This position is accountable for supervising the work, people, and results in the inspection area, to inspect and evaluate the quality of purchased products and parts.
  • Provide leadership, direction, management, and development to the inspection team
  • Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them
  • Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, managing holiday allowances, recruitment, training, development, appraisal, attendance, disciplinary issues and daily supervision to maximize efficient productivity
  • Outline and implement training procedures for employees in the inspection operation such as drawings, prints, schematics, and quality assurance standards


  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors
  • Coordinate personnel, tools, and parts to ensure inspection schedules are met, and throughput maintained to meet our internal and external customer needs


  • Ensure compliance within the inspection function, with the standards applicable to our business (ATEX, MID…)
  • Plan and implement quality improvement programs using lean tools (A3, 8D….)
  • Work closely with Design, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineers to ensure the proper processes and procedures are in place through use of tools such as PPAP and Internal Audits.
  • Work with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing Engineers) team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice quality, vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance
  • Support Sourcing with the supplier approval process by assessing manufacturing/technology capabilities
  • Drive the PPAP procedure with the supplier, and the relevant control plan are defined in DFS Dundee.
  • Define requirements for inspection depending on parts criticality, inspection plan, procedures, and reports.
  • Support new product launches to ensure suppliers can deliver to the required quality standards
  • Lead root cause analysis on purchased part or product quality issues and work issue through corrective action process to address process failure.
  • Communicate and instruct suppliers on the use of a corrective action process and quality tools & techniques.
  • Manage the KPI related to the effectiveness of the action plan put in place and ensure closure of the issues.
  • May perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions of supplier quality issues
  • Review supplier manufacturing processes, collaborate with suppliers on process improvement and value enhancement opportunities
  • Promote the use of continuous improvement such as Lean,Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), Measurement System Analysis and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
  • Monitor and report on supplier product quality and performance


  • Participate in CI event as the quality representative, while empowering operational staff to present ideas and create improvement in the processes
  • Provide quality support in the different areas of the factory, and coach people to the ‘’quality first’’ ethos
  • Participate in lean activity, 5S, process efficiency improvements, and Kaizen events related to quality or others


Qualifications requirements


  • Fluent English language, both verbal and written
  • Previous experience of undertaking a supplier focused role in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in managing a team.
  • Strong analytical mindset, and good troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to deal with several projects at once
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and good knowledge of 5 WHY, ISHIKAWA, A3, 8D
  • Good presentation skills, including common use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • ISO knowledge is a plus
  • Technical skills, must be able to read/follow technical drawing, wiring diagrams, product specifications and use basic electronic & mechanical measurement tools – GD&T
  • Knowledge of measurement system, techniques, and tools like GR&R.
  • Experience in electronic or hydraulic is a plus.
  • A technical / engineering qualification is desirable
  • Familiarity with quality tools and techniques such as PPAP, PSW, APQP, 8D, FMEA
