Position Summary: The Supervisor, Warehouse/Logistics directly leads a team of warehouse and materials personnel to control quality, cost and delivery within their warehouse, yard and material handling areas. A Supervisor is a person that is responsible for increasing the ratio of value add to effort, and eliminating waste in the process, for a defined production area; and for ensuring that the value stream meets or exceeds customer requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Plan, coordinate, motivate and develop the team to drive operational excellence;
  • Act as a coach/mentor for direct reports and develop talent aligned to the Business Strategy;
  • Nurture a high-performance culture throughout the workforce, dedicated to achieving stretched results;
  • Maintain and improve Environment, Health & Safety standards throughout the yard, warehouse and material handling area;
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase the ratio of value add to effort, by eliminating waste in the process;
  • Embrace the value of standard work - CI - new standard work – as our cycle of improvement;
  • Monitor quality standards are being maintained, troubleshoot and resolve;
  • Plan resources to ensure optimum staffing to meet production targets;
  • Prepare regular reports to measure and monitor results, improvements and status of projects.

 

Candidate Experience and Qualification:

 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a similar position, within a warehouse or logistics environment is essential.
  • Experience of working within a continuous improvement/ lean manufacturing environment
  • Previous supervisory experience, with a track record of having developed a multi-skilled warehouse and material handling team.

 

Skills & Knowledge:

 

  • Ability to deal with people at all levels. (shop floor – senior management)
  • The Supervisor must be able to step back and view the value stream from a broad perspective.
  • Experience of warehousing / material handling and yard areas is an advantage.
  • They should have a good level of knowledge about lean thinking, or alternatively be willing to work closely with a CI Leader to get this knowledge
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good problem-solving skills combined with an innovative approach.
  • Strong influencing leadership, coaching, motivational and people development skills. This person should have exemplary leadership abilities, be able to motivate individuals in the value stream to change.
  • Strong IT skills
  • Production planning and co-ordinating skills
