Position Title: Assembly Manager

Position Location: Eagle Rock, VA

Reports To: Director of Operations



Main position objectives

The Assembly Manager is responsible for leading the mechanical and electrical assembly team for scheduling, erecting, testing, disassembly and packaging of engineered products and systems manufactured on site.  Coordinates work distribution among the team members against schedules and deadlines and works with others to coordinate timely receipt of equipment and components to meet assembly production schedules.

A core function of the assembly supervisor is also to initiate and manage continuous improvement projects to improve speed, quality and housekeeping.


Position description – Tasks, responsibilities, competencies

  • Leads the assembly team by directing work assignments for both mechanical and electrical technicians.  Works with others to coordinate integrated system programming and testing.
  • Coordinates assembly scheduling and sequencing with support of others
  • Works closely with Inventory Manager to streamline kitting/staging of assembly components
  • Drives continuous improvement activity in material flow, organization (6S), standardization, material movement, quality, safety and delivery.
  • Develop direct reports and implement cross training in gap areas.
  • Works closely with MRP (CSI) closing production orders, project schedules and inventory look-up
  • Drives continuous improvements in design for manufacturing with close relationship with engineering.
  • Identify opportunities for reduction of assembly cycle time, including sequencing, sub-assembly, ergonomic equipment, methods, stock programs, etc.
  • Work with others to reduce delays that impact assembly
  • Spearhead departmental morning cell board/Gemba meetings
  • Drive change and encourage continual improvement within the team
  • Promote and exemplify a safe and healthy work environment
  • Provide leadership to the assembly team including identification of training needs, career development and necessary disciplinary oversight




  • High school diploma or equal.



  • Associates degree or higher is desirable or significant experience previous job experience in similar field.


Professional experience



  • 5 + years of mechanical or electrical assembly within an industrial equipment environment
  • Past demonstrated ability to lead a large team
  • Strong aptitude with reading and interpreting engineering assembly level drawings




  • Previous leadership position – leading a team
  • Experience in plastics processing equipment assembly.
  • Experience with Solidworks or similar
  • Continuous Improvement experience
