Objective
The Field Service Technician provides the highest quality on and off-site technical support for the Maag family of equipment to include: plastic pelletizing systems, polymer pump, and filtration systems. Working independently but supported by others, the incumbent is the technical representative to our customers for all product maintenance, installation, and repair issues.
Tasks, responsibilities, and competencies
- Independently travels nationally and internationally as Gala’s primary technical representative to the customer.
- Interacts with customers on a daily basis to provide solutions to issues
- Conducts yearly follow-up calls to all Gala customers to check up on the customer and Gala machinery
- Participates in customer visits to provide support for equipment installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair activities. Visit responsibilities include logistical planning, coordination with interagency contacts and the customer, execution of the trip, and reporting activities and expenses.
- Provide training to customers in-house at Gala’s facility and at the customer’s location.
- Represents the company and collects customer feedback to facilitate continuous improvement opportunities.
- Conducts technical discussions regarding machinery repairs, upgrades, and selection to assist customers with a solution to their needs or problems.
- Collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, parts and, equipment sales to develop customer-focused solutions.
The incumbent considers all interests of quality, accident prevention, and occupational safety as well as environmental safety in a preventive manner within his scope of responsibility and supports the avoidance of damages to people, facilities, assets, materials, and the environment actively.

Work Environment
Work in this position is both in an office and a factory floor environment, either locally or at a customer site. While performing the duties of this job in a factory setting, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud and PPE may be required.

- The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Occasional prolonged sitting during international commercial air travel.
Education
Mandatory
- High School diploma or equivalent education (additional technical skills a plus)
- Strong mechanical aptitude
Desirable
- Technical training in electrical systems (single-phase, 3-phase or low voltage systems)
- Technical training on logic circuits, electric motors, gears / mechanical devices
- Multiple language skills
Professional Experience
Desirable
- Min 3 years of experience in a field service role
- Min 3 years of experience using measuring / test equipment including micrometers and multi-meters
- Writing progress and expense report
- Global travel experience
- Experience in plastics processing or rotational molding highly desirable
