POSITION SUMMARY:

The selected candidate will lead research projects and serve as a technical expert in the field of Structures and Materials.  In addition, they will also help to develop and work within a technical network of suppliers, peers and universities to scan new technologies. These technologies will be evaluated for potential viability and further development. This will include complete documentation and communication.  The candidate will also work to implement, maintain and monitor the use of design standards and regulatory requirement compliance. A key function of this position is to understand stress analysis and the use of modeling software used for FEA. The primary area of focus for this person will be in Mechanical Structures and Materials although cross-disciplinary involvement and education is a must.   

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Research existing and new technologies. 
  • Develop validation programs that evaluate new technologies.
  • Maintain a strong focus on quality, cost, and overall customer value.
  • Exhibit project leadership skills with designers, sustaining engineers, and other key team members to assure that engineering documents are adequate for a successful launch.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in structures and related fields.
  • Actively participate with manufacturing and operations in early builds to assure that key specifications for successful assembly are included in the design.
  • Act as a key point of feedback for engineering processes and standards to assure that world-class warranty levels are achieved. This includes developing and maintaining standards for design.
  • Oversee and review testing protocol to ensure that technologies are properly validated.  

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or related degree or equivalent experience is required. 
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of engineering experience in the Mechanical Engineering disciplines in a heavy manufacturing environment by employing DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly).
  • In addition, a minimum of 2+ years of experience using Pro-E and / or SolidWorks is required.
  • Candidates with product development experience from the Mining Equipment, Heavy Construction Equipment or other related industries will be given special consideration.
  • Experience in the design and application of Robotics, Advanced Hydraulics, and Controls Systems is heavily desired.
  • Should be able to exhibit strong problem-solving skills and employ a process such as 6-Sigma or another structured method to solve complex problems.
  • Experience performing simulation analysis (i.e. FEA) of materials / structures, experience working with hydraulic / electro-mechanical components or experience in the Mining Equipment / Heavy Construction Equipment Industries would be given special consideration. 
  • Knowledge of FEA and experimental stress analysis.
  • Candidates must be self starters, fast paced, but still highly detailed and accurate. 
  • The ability to access new methods or technologies at various levels of detail. To quickly categorize it as ‘worth further investigation’ and then to pursue that investigation, validation and documentation.
  • Results oriented focus with a high level of accountability.
  • Willing to travel up to 15% and maintain a flexible work schedule during critical stages of development projects to achieve result.
