POSITION SUMMARY:

The Continuous Improvement Lead / Production Supervisor is a Continuous Improvement role with the intention of transitioning into a full-time Production Supervisor role after 6-12 months.  As Continuous Improvement Lead, this role will assist Production Supervisors and Team Leaders in driving targeted performance improvement projects by facilitating Kaizen Events and Just-Do-It improvements in 5S, Visual Management, Standard Work, and Problem Solving.  Learning, teaching, listening, facilitating and hands-on participating are the keys to success in this role.  Later, as Production Supervisor, this role will take leadership responsibility for a team of 30-50 Team Members, ensuring manufacturing operations function effectively and efficiently, implementing and driving process improvements, and coaching and managing Team Member performance.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Drive safety and environmental compliance.
  • Partner with Production Supervisors to investigate incidents and initiate root cause corrective actions.
  • Drive quality improvements at the department level.  
  • Work with Supervisors and Team Leaders to identify and prioritize Continuous Improvement activities in their areas.  Work directly with Team Leaders and Team Members to rapidly implement improvements via projects, Kaizen Events, and Just-Do-Its.
  • Educate, coach, motivate, and mentor Team Members to transfer Lean skills and establish an engaged Continuous Improvement culture.
  • Engage team members in collaborative problem solving.
  • Successfully manage Kaizen Events and projects along with resources and deliverables.
  • Provide leadership direction and support to generate the expected results with the site, organization, supplier and customer.  
  • Regularly provide project status updates to stakeholders and team members.
  • Rotate to a Production Supervisor role after six to twelve months in the CI role.
  • Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Assist with other strategic projects and duties as assigned.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Experience (3-5 years) in leading Kaizen Events and implementing Lean techniques such as 5S, Visual Management, Standard Work, Problem-Solving, Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Pull Systems, preferably in a high-mix, low volume environment.    
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or other applicable degree) is preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Previous Supervisor or Team Leader equivalent experience required.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Travel will be less than 10%.
  • Must be flexible to work either day or night shifts and open to weekend work.
  • Coach, mentor and provide leadership to all team members.  Supervisor must possess good people skills resulting in treating employees with respect while dealing with them in a firm, fair, consistent manner.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be a good delegator.
  • Must possess thorough understanding of complex machine tools; read and understand complex blueprints, specifications, electrical schematics and instructions, and operate welding machines.
  • Requires ability to read, comprehend and follow complicated verbal instructions, use planning skills to organize work processes and be able to communicate effectively with his/her team and internal/external customers. 
  • Requires ability to follow verbal instructions and to communicate with outside sources and internal departments in person and via telephone. Requires the ability to read written instructions, correspondence and other documentation, observe machinery and drawings, as well as operate office equipment such as computers (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and printers. 
  • Uses color and depth perception to check for product quality problems. 
  • Requires capability of performing essential job functions in plant environments with the presence of dust, fumes, noise, and fluctuating temperatures due to lack of climate control.
  • Requires walking and standing approximately 80%, sitting approximately 20% and lifting up to 40 pounds approximately 5% of time; involves some repetitive overhead work 5% of time; involves repetitive stooping, and forward bending and crouching approximately 5% of time.  Requires the ability to engage in repetitive lifting; operation of general hand tools, computers, copy machine, other general office equipment, and to record written information.
