Operating Company: Environmental Solutions Group - Heil Environmental

Location:  Fort Payne, AL

Reports To:  Senior Director, Heil Operations

Department:  Operations         



Primarily responsible for managing the plant’s operations to ensure efficiency so company objectives are met.  This is an advanced level plant manager role.



  • Corresponds with Vice President of Operations to determine direction and implementation of operations policies that reflect daily company objectives.
  • Directs plant operations through department group leaders to ensure all departments operate efficiently, meeting production and budget goals. Works with Vice President of Operations in establishing proper metrics. 
  • Assists as required in resolving personnel issues. Alerts and/or seeks assistance from Human Resources on cases that are potentially “complicated.”
  • Directs daily operations of the office personnel, including Materials, Purchasing/ Scheduler, Human Resources Support, IT/Sigmanest, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering.  Receive and resolve any personnel issues among office staff.
  • Responsible for oversight of local plant purchasing decisions, including selection of vendors, purchasing agreements, and inventory management. Direction must be in concert with corporate Purchasing, especially as it relates to national contracts.
  • Coordination of manufacturing schedule with ISC’s, outside sales representatives, customers and national accounts, with primary focus being customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for communication and coordination with RSM’s, including travel with RSM to customer locations to resolve sales and manufacturing issues.
  • Communication and coordination with major distributors regarding scheduling issues and manufacturing issues.
  • Manages all departments to ensure safety regulations are followed and to eliminate any unsafe working conditions. Receives and reviews accident reports and assures that supervisors conduct monthly safety meetings. Focus should be on accident prevention and robust case management once an accident occurs. Corporate Risk Manager and EHS Manager should be resources to assist in this function.
  • Responsible for facility EPA, OSHA compliance. Coordinate with Corporate Risk Manager and EHS Manager on these issues; deal directly with State and Federal inspectors as required.
  • Directs implementation of policies to ensure adequate levels of quality.  Investigates quality problems along with appropriate department personnel and reports investigation findings to Vice President of Manufacturing and the Director of Operations.
  • Monitors daily repairs to equipment and fixturing to ensure production runs smoothly.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies that apply to the manufacturing process. Select, justify, purchase and implement new processes/machinery as required.
  • Assures that all plant and corporate personnel policies are followed and implemented consistently.
  • Prepares annual plant production budgets and submits to company management.
  • Must be familiar with and in compliance to Marathon Equipment values, rules and Code of Ethics.
  • Attends management meetings regarding company policies and decision-making, as required. Assists in establishing employee relations policies as they relate to manufacturing operations.
  • Conducts monthly Team Member Communications meetings.
  • Represents Company to the community in a positive and honorable manner.
  • Performs performance reviews of direct reports on a timely basis.
  • Performs other various duties as may be assigned.
  • Travels as required.



  • Bachelor’s Degree and previous supervisory management experience.  Extensive Managerial experience will be considered in lieu of four-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in an Engineered to Order Business.
  • Must possess thorough understanding of budgeting and business planning.
  • Must have comprehensive understanding of plant and equipment operation.
  • Possess excellent oral/written communication skills for internal/external relations with others including being a good listener and being willing to utilize the knowledge of all employees as appropriate. Successful manager must be able and willing to communicate with employees on a regular basis.
  • Manager must possess good people skills resulting in treating employees with respect while dealing with them in a firm, fair, consistent manner. 
  • Manager must have good organizational skills and be a good delegator.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to concentrate and pay attention to reviewing manufacturing procedures for approximately 80% of work time.
