POSITION SUMMARY:
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer will lead and / or assist technical expertise to organizational transformations as well as drive targeted performance improvement projects. The transformation engagements will include fostering cultural transformations at Environmental Solutions Group (ESG) locations through mentoring of executive leadership, organizational training, and specifically hands-on project development and support driving EHS improvements. The targeted performance improvement activities will be supported by applying continuous improvement methodologies to achieve specific business results in safety, operations, transactional processes, supply chain, acquisition integration and other strategic initiatives for the organization.
Responsibilities as EHS Engineer will be to develop and manage programs, equipment and functions of the facility(s) as required by Federal and State environmental, health, and safety regulations to complement existing and future Environmental Solutions Group policies, procedures and objectives. Provide hands-on technical development and support for environmental, health, and safety to meet mutually beneficial expectations. Create a strong contributory culture that engages all employees. Monitor environmental, health, and safety regulations and apply accordingly through each initiative. Provide technical support to plant and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with regulatory or policy requirements. Perform professional work to protect or improve air, land and water resources in order to provide a clean environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Support safe work procedures, processes and technical capabilities; cultivate proper attitudes in a production atmosphere without jeopardizing team members or minimizing EHS in the various workplace job sites.
- Use a hands-on approach to help assure organizational compliance of applicable OSHA and EPA federal, state, local and corporate safety, health and environmental regulatory requirements and associated coconscious standards. Evaluate, identify and assure that employed procedures and equipment follow and adhere to proven and standardized EHS procedures, policies and rules by all assigned team members, visitors, customers and contractors entering the plant properties.
- Evaluate known and unknown risks and apply technical expertise to accomplish expected outcomes.
- Coordinate plant wide programs, risk mitigation and injury prevention initiatives, based on the needs of the site.
- Create an acceptive change accepting culture of injury-free attitudes within the plant team by demonstrating honest, genuine care and passion for safety.
- Develop strategies in support of the Business Unit’s goals and objectives relating to safety and environmental protection. This position will work closely with the Business Unit leadership and EHS committees in the formulation of these strategies and executable outcomes.
- Provide management counsel to those managers and line managers responsible for safety and environmental protection on a local or regional level. Such counsel will bridge expectation with technical capabilities and program requirements.
- Participating in pollution prevention and waste reduction initiatives.
- Understand Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations.
- Participate in new product and process reviews including process hazard analyses, Operator Training, etc.
- Regulate and enforce environmental engineering policies, programs and activities by established standards; draft new standards as necessary.
- Environmental compliance audits. Interact with outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Act as change agent committed to accelerating process improvements with the aim of supporting the business in achieving its objectives. Promote awareness, understanding and acceptance of ESG Continuous Improvement Methodology. Create a Continuous Improvement transformation road map.
- Educate, coach, and mentor employees at all levels in the organization to establish an engaged Continuous Improvement culture.
- Drive cross-functional Continuous Improvement teams to breakthrough or Best-in-Class performance in People, Quality, Material Flow, Information Flow, technology and Cost.
- Assist with aligning site improvement plans to the broader ESG organization through participation in project idea generation, selection, scoping, aligning metrics and project execution.
- Successfully manage project timeline, resources and deliverables.
- Regularly provide project status updates to stakeholders and team members.
- Train local teams and apply wide range of process improvement tools to assist in identifying and eliminating waste and support growth including: Value Stream Mapping, Visual Management, Kaizen/Gemba Planning and Facilitation, Flow Concepts, Product Preparation Process (3P), Pull Systems/Kanban, 5S/Workplace Organization, Level Load Scheduling, Value Analysis/Value Engineering, and Standard Work, Problem Solving (i.e.: A3, Six Sigma DMAIC).
- Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and integrity.
- Assists with other strategic projects and duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Prefer degree emphasizing Safety focusing toward Engineering or Technical Environmental Health and Safety professional.
- Desired certifications: Certified Safety Professional and Registered Environmental Manager.
- 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment is a must. The work requires a professional knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of engineering concerned with facilities and systems controlling pollution and protecting quality of resources and the environment. Demonstrated Continuous Improvement responsibility, experience in directing and managing large projects and influencing, coaching, driving and managing change.
- Experience dealing with regulatory agencies, i.e., OSHA, EPA.
- Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and project management software.
- Experience working as a participatory member of a companywide program with defined broad objectives and applying them locally in applicable methods.
- Able to perform and lead a variety of tasks, planned and unplanned, with an exceptionally high level of quality to meet target dates.
- Able to travel as necessitated to other company locations or regulatory offices.
- Ability to effectively deal with other people, especially other company personnel, to enlist needed cooperation in implementing regulatory requirements.
- Ability to deal with regulatory agencies, consultants, and other contractor personnel.
- Excellent written, oral, and computer skills required.
- Ability to work in a team environment across a multisite organization.

- Skills / Background in Electrical and Mechanical Technology.
- Certified lean practitioner and/or Six Sigma Blackbelt.
