POSITION SUMMARY:

Leads a team of Production Control personnel or Production Coordinators serving as “Planners” for their respective Value Streams (with JDE Planner Codes) that delivers required parts to production and product to customers on time with production department’s constraints, and optimizes use of resources to produce those products.

 

This position is responsible for developing and publishing a valid, constraint/capacity-compensated and achievable production schedule on sales forecast/slots, actual sales orders, monthly AOP/Flash dates, by setting and managing customer delivery/promise dates and shop daily build priorities for parts sales, ready trucks, and mixed-model body lines, in view of customer options and special engineering requirements. This position will also coordinate the scheduling of new product launches through both the prototype builds and production runs, and coordinate special tooling/fixture build schedules required to meet launch dates and labor cost expectations. Monthly Schedules and weekly updates with feedback and performance to schedule metrics will be redistributed after soliciting and reconciling conflicting inputs from marketing, customer service, engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain/logistics.

 

The Master Scheduler will develop and continuously refine the system, through simulation and coordination with plant management, to identify manpower, process, or tooling bottlenecks constraining cell thru puts, and recommend alternative solutions that optimize resource utilization. Cross functional and cross departmental communication is critical in this role.  Position requires prior knowledge of low-volume/high variety and engineer-to-order (ETO) production scheduling environment, and familiarity with ERP, CRP.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Creates and distributes production plans for Fabrication, Body Lines, Paint, Chassis Check-In, and Body Mount that optimizes resources in the entire factory (labor, inventory, equipment). Align schedule with Monthly AOP and Financial plans.
  • Perform Rough-Cut Capacity Analysis to validate resource constraints (engineering, equipment, labor, etc.) and interact/provide feedback with management to communicate current status.
  • Manage production variation and smoothing by recommending staffing level changes, capacity changes, and build-ahead/push-out plans.
  • Analyze and update MRP parameters and Kanban Levels in concert with Production Control, Engineering/Bill of Materials, and Supply Chain personnel.
  • Publish and manage daily production meeting, changes, and performance to schedule metrics.
  • Uses planners to establish the production “build plan” on a daily and weekly basis. Prioritizes these requirements.  Planners work closely with production department to achieve goals/priorities and manage demonstrated capacity constraints.
  • Uses production capacity models or other tools to make achievable plans.
  • Monitors chassis availability and manages perpetual inventory of chassis that supports a manufacturing build plan, production and slots/sales forecast. Assist in maximizing inventory turns and reducing obsolete inventory costs.
  • Participates in ECO/Change control process in order to control running changes to BOM materials and supplies and their inventory levels.
  • Direct activities of Production Inventory Control team personnel to ensure on-time deliveries of ECO-compliant parts to the manufacturing cells. 

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University program required or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 (five) years master scheduling experience in a discrete manufacturing, OEM, with low-volume high-variety engineer to order business environment required.
  • Preferred experience in Lean Manufacturing and heavy equipment and durable goods environment.
  • Strong MRP/MRP II/ERP experience and familiarity with Kanban, JIT, Pull, Flow, VMI.
  • APICS Certification as CPIM or CSCP.
  • Experience with JD Edwards a plus but not required.
