Position Summary: 

This position is primarily responsible for loading, unloading, kitting, and transporting materials and products to and from various Manufacturing Departments. Must maintain working knowledge of and participate in the coordination and distribution of Kan Ban and production materials and inventory control activities.


Roles and Key Responsibilities:

  1. Observes all safety regulations and reports any unsafe working conditions to Department Supervisor.
  2. Reads work orders or follows Department Supervisor’s direction to ascertain materials or parts to be moved with the use of fork lifts, hand carts, pallet jacks, overhead or jib cranes, or any other equipment used to transport, load, unload, or otherwise manipulate materials.
  3. Operates forklift, cranes, carts, pallet jacks, or other equipment to transport raw materials, in process parts, or finished goods throughout the production process, for shipping and receiving purposes, or as required for operations. Maintain certification for forklift use or other certifications as required for specialized equipment (coordinate with supervisor and local HR resource).
  4. Manually load and unload parts up to 40 lbs., and assist employees with loading and unloading parts above 40 lbs. and above to and from their designated locations.
  5. Performs preventative maintenance checks to all equipment prior to use, including forklifts, pallet jacks, etc. Completes maintenance checklists as required and submit maintenance requests to Maintenance Department when necessary.
  6. Maintain records of material movements, quantities, locations, departments, etc. Coordinate with department supervisor and internal customers as required and stipulated in operation systems.
  7. Identify materials and parts as required.
  8. Support of production requirements as necessary may require overtime coordinated through supervisor or management.
  9. Maintain work area and equipment clean and ordered.
  10. Coordinate Kan Ban material - move material as required. Collect and deliver Kan Ban cards to the proper area, taking care to assure that cards are not lost or damaged, be responsible for card integrity (maintenance – replace worn cards; take card inventory to assure that all cards are still in existence; card holders tray and other manipulation areas are clean, ordered and free of damage o material that could damage cards, maintain list of pending items for card maintenance, etc.).
  11. Prepare production kits as required or assigned. Kits may include but not limited to raw material, parts, sub-assemblies, purchased parts or combinations of those or other parts/material as listed on bills of materials (BOM’s) or special instructions provided by supervisor or management.
  12. Fill in and support related areas of shipping and receiving on an as needed basis. Understand and maintain the ability to perform related tasks on an infrequent basis (not fluently but understands requirements and can complete with minimal direction and support).
  13. Perform any other task as required to support operations and customer satisfaction provided it can be performed safely and without special training requirements.



Education: Requires a High School Diploma or GED.

Knowledge: Requires ability to understand general arithmetic; ability to write in an understandable manner; understand verbal or written instructions; ability to read and understand instructions, lists and billing materials; use PC based applications, including Mainstar, Outlook, and Microsoft Office, knowledge normally acquired through high school or equivalent experience.

Mental: Requires normal attention with periods of high concentration intermittently to operate machinery approximately 50% of time.

Physical: Requires walking/standing approximately 30%, sitting approximately 50% and lifting up to 40 lbs. approximately 20% of time; involves repetitive overhead work approximately 15% of time; involves repetitive stooping, forward bending and crouching approximately 10% of time.

Manual Dexterity: Requires use of hands, arms and feet for repetitive lifting; use of hands and arms to operate all manufacturing equipment, meters, chains hoists, automatic drills and general hand tools and to record written information.

Audible Demands: Requires ability to follow verbal instructions and to hear for safety purposes.

Visual: Requires the ability to visually observe essential functions for satisfactory job performance and safety; color and depth perception required.

Environmental: Exposure to plant environments with the presence of dust, fumes, noise, and fluctuating temperatures due to lack of climate control.
