About The Job


The Semi Skilled Operative sets up and operates machine's and equipment to perform a range of processes in the manufacturing of custom-engineered bearings, in line with quality standards and in conjunction with various other engineering disciplines at our established site in Glasgow.

 

What you Will Bring

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a lean-manufacturing work environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes, with an understanding of and able to work from technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience of processes including fabrication, machining, finishing and final assembly within a precision engineering / workshop environment.
  • Ideally you will have experience of 'Hot Work' such as welding, brazing soldering, of use of open flames, or working in a foundry or furnace setting.
  • Experience of working with overhead cranes, manual handling, lifting and slinging.
  • Ideally experience of forklift / reach truck operation.
  • Prior experience with precision inspection equipment including, but not limited to, micrometres, callipers and electronic measuring equipment.


What You Will Do

  • Read process sheets, blueprints and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up and operating requirements.
  • Manual handling of materials and components.
  • Using forklift / reach truck in warehouse environment.
  • Interpret work instructions, identify, select set-up / install tooling for operations being performed.
  • Understand the applicable quality systems and perform necessary quality inspections.
  • Apply principles of Lean Manufacturing to reduce setup times and improve productivity.
  • Visually inspect final components and boxing of parts to include cleaning, oiling, wrapping and boxing the final product for shipment.
  • Perform cleaning, fitting, filing, blending, polishing.
  • Use precision measuring instruments and gauging devices and performs various quality inspection type procedures to include dimensional verification.
  • Actively participate in daily Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Set up all necessary measuring equipment and routinely check the calibration of the equipment while measuring.
  • Support “Best Practices” to achieve company goals for safety, delivery, cost and quality.
  • Ability to work rotating Early & Back shifts.
