Position Summary:

The Senior Buyer is a key member of the Grand Rapids Supply Chain Team for a $100 million division of a large multi-national industrial leader in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. The Senior Buyer will lead projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business , as well as driving cost savings, dual sourcing, and risk mitigation initiatives across the business. The individual is responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications related to materials procurement and will partner with Corporate Category Managers to ensure fulfillment of overall supply chain strategy. The ideal candidate will have significant experience sourcing a variety of components in a rapidly changing, quick turn environment. The role requires an individual with both tactical and strategic abilities, willing and able to interact at all levels of the organization including product segment planners, product design, customer service and operation.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage $5M+ annual spend and perform tactical execution of ERP review, including optimal inventory levels, safety stock, and create deviations as necessary based on the needs of the business.
  • Optimize commodity spending and provide Year over Year (YoY) annual savings through cost reductions, cost avoidance and operational improvements through contract negotiation, process changes, and implementation of sustainable cost controls, including collaboration with Finance to validate the impact of projects and contract negotiations to the general ledger.
  • Monitor performances to the material plan and take proactive action to solve problems and mitigate risk in meeting customer requirements and inventory targets.
  • Participate in developing junior buyers to meet production schedules, buyer metrics, and organizational goals.
  • Maintains knowledge of market conditions, anticipates market changes and recommends appropriate actions.
  • Interface with design engineering, sourcing, production control, manufacturing assembly, receiving, logistics, quality, IT, and accounts payable.
  • Achieve in depth product and commodity knowledge to understand the relationship to supplier technology, capabilities, processes, and capacities
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives using LEAN tools (A3, PDCA, 5Why) that lead to measurable improvement in organizational objectives
  • Conform to all ISO 9001 policies and procedures, Company Code of Ethics, and Company Purchasing Policies.
  • Arranges commercial agreements to support business strategies.
  • Lead make/buy analysis and other strategic procurement decisions.
  • Professionally resolve problems (both internal and external) in a fair and ethical manner.
  • Manage procurement data integrity for assigned areas

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 5 - 7 years’ experience in purchasing/materials/supply chain management
  • Bachelor’s Degree – Procurement, Logistics, Business, Engineering or related field
  • Professional certification CPSM, CPM, CPIM, CIRM (preferred)
  • Strong ERP systems user/knowledge of Oracle (or similar) and MS Office applications (Advanced Excel: VLOOKUP, Pivots Tables)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, time management and prioritization capabilities
  • Familiar with Kaizen and Lean manufacturing principles (preferably working knowledge) Ability and willingness to work in a global environment comprised of both domestic and offshore suppliers
  • Proven leadership and negotiation skills
  • Ability to think both tactically and strategically
  • Strong people skills and adaptable to change
