Position Summary:
The Engineering Test Lab Manager is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient function and day-to-day operations of Blackmer’s Engineering Test Lab. This role will define and implement policies and procedures related to the test lab functions, prioritize tasks and research work, and manage a team of engineers and technicians responsible for executing various tasks including, but not limited to, certified performance testing, witness testing, product development support, and daily production support. This role will ensure the accuracy and efficiency of test procedures, maintain equipment and calibration, write and archive test reports, design and procure test equipment, and adhere to quality control standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety and Compliance:
• Ensure adherence to all laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
• Acts as a champion for safety not just in the lab environment but all over the site.
• Report and address any safety concerns immediately.
Team Management:
• Hire, train and supervise lab technicians, test engineers, and analysts.
• Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide feedback to staff.
• Manage timecards, vacation requests, and sick leave requests.
• Develop and monitor yearly laboratory staff objectives.
• Conduct performance evaluations and address performance issues.
• Report out on key performance indicators for the lab and act as a liaison between site leadership and their team.
• Provide technical expertise when required for lab staff and others.
Laboratory Operations:
• Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP) for all testing processes and lab activities.
• Develop and implement a robust 5S and organizational standard for the lab area.
• Maintain and execute layouts and changes to laboratory layout to ensure safe and efficient operations day-to-day.
• Oversee the receipt, preparation, and analysis of samples, pumps, compressors, and other equipment as required to support the business.
• Monitor and manage laboratory workflow to ensure timely completion of work.
• Ensure proper documentation and data integrity.
Quality Assurance:
• Implement and maintain a robust quality control program including working with the site quality assurance department to maintain calibrations of all equipment requiring it.
• Manage the investigation and resolution of non-conforming results and quality issues.
• Monitor compliance with relevant regulatory standards.
• Remain up to date on the latest testing methodologies and technologies.
Equipment Management, Budget, and Procurement:
• Manage laboratory equipment inventory, including maintenance, calibration, and repair schedules as appropriate.
• Coordinate equipment purchases and upgrades including development of capital requests.
• Develop and manage a budget related to the purchase of equipment, maintenance, services, etc.
• Monitor the budget and identify cost savings opportunities as appropriate.
Qualifications / Requirements:
• 5+ years’ laboratory experience dealing with the development and support of industrial products
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field is preferred
• Prior management or supervisory experience preferred
• Ability to influence in a matrix environment and influence teams without solid line reporting
• Preference is for the candidate to have experience with equipment utilized in bulk liquid storage, fluid transport, or fluid distribution/retail, within chemical, process, power, industrial, oil & gas, or industrial gas industries

Work Arrangement : Onsite
Salary Range : $105,176.00 - $133,342.00
