Position Summary:  This Quality Engineer role has primary responsibilities in managing the Quality Specials within the plant with other secondary responsibilities within the Quality Department outlined below or as assigned by the Quality Manager.    


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage a team of Quality Specials on a three-shift operation in which you:

  • Ensure timely support of Production Operations via consistent throughput of purchased components in Receiving Inspection.
  • Ensure the system of calibration is NIST traceable, reliable, and maintained current at all times.
  • Manage the Metrology Lab to support internal customer’s needs for Production and PPAP layouts utilizing reproducible and repeatable methods.  
  • Provide that NCM’s are documented in a detailed and timely manner.
  • Review and evaluate workloads and schedule team accordingly.
  • Train and cross-train Quality Specials to maintain a flexible and reliable work force.
  • Determination and requisitioning of gauging and conducting R&R (Repeatability & Reproducibility) studies.
  • Guide team in problem solving, trouble shooting, resolution.
  • Ensure timely completion of internal auditing and monitoring of specified processes.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) internally and externally as assigned.
  • Maintain Receiving Inspection aspects and load for new components.
  • Interface with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and other departments to resolve processes and product quality issues using structured problem-solving including DOE (Design of Experiment) and 8D.
  • Pro-actively drive compliance for Quality Systems using audits and other strategic initiatives.
  • Perform product evaluation audits.
  • Oversee witness tests on various products as required by Customer Orders.
  • Produce certification documentation for customer orders as requested.
  • Occasional travel may be required.



  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Quality Engineering with expertise in Calibration systems and measurement methods.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in managing a team.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or Technical discipline.


Desired Characteristics:

  • Technical problem solving and experience with Six Sigma problem solving tools
  • Knowledgeable in CMM, Laser Scanning technologies, Profilometers, Optical Comparators, Air gaging, Micro-meters, thread gages, hardness tester and other common measurement equipment.
  • Ability to manage a union work force of 6 to 10 members across 3 shifts.
  • Clear, concise and articulate verbal, written, listening and interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing projects involving both internal and external customers.
  • Strong analytical analysis skills to solve complex problems with creative solutions
  • Impeccable organization and efficiency skills; strong attention to detail
  • Interfaces with wide array of individuals, balances multiple tasks and maintains positive attitude and energy
  • Customer focused, strong team player, work ethic and commitment to win
  • Ability to lead Change Management initiatives for the Quality Specials.
