Summary: The Machinist II is responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines, conventional and special purpose machines while safely producing parts in compliance to print tolerances by following work instruction and procedures.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completed 2 semesters of Machine Technology courses or equivalent.
  • National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Turning and Milling Certificate required. Will consider equivalent certificate from an accredited institution.

 

Experience:

  • 2+ years job shop experience with CNC lathes, CNC mills, manual lathes, drill press, vertical mill, and radial arm.
  • Experience with pneumatic and hand tools.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skilled in the use of precision machines and inspection tools to hold tolerances to plus or minus .001 while identifying non-conforming parts.
  • Working knowledge and ability to read blueprints, make basic shop calculations relating to dimensions of work, including tooling, speeds, and feeds.
  • Capable of touching off tools, indicating in fixtures, and the proper use of jigs.
  • Capable of making work and tool offsets needed to reach dimensional tolerances.
  • Understand cutter comp, work-shift, and boring bar adjustment.
  • Familiar with “G” and “M” codes.
  • Proficient with basic shop math
  • Basic understanding of GD&T
  • Ability to muti-task and run multiple machines simultaneously.
  • May be requested to perform light CNC programming 2D wireframe CAD/CAM software.
  • Maintains a positive attitude toward team members and the organization.
  • Seeks opportunities and provides solutions.
  • Desire to continuously improve and learn new skills.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute work orders initiated by planner.
  • Read/ interpret blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions, and standard charts for specific dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions.
  • Setup and operate machines to create parts that conform to engineered blueprint specifications.
  • Setup CNC machine including selecting jaws, setting work, changing tools, touching-off tools, indicating parts, inspecting and changing inserts, loading programs and adjusting tool offsets
  • Inspect parts to tolerances on prints are met by checking parts for defects and marking for disposition, working to ensure best quality output possible.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance in the department
  • Seeks out continuous improvement opportunities for performing and completing work in the department to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Responsible for notifying supervisor or lead prior to any part shortages to maintain steady flow of parts.
  • Complete and maintain a variety of reports, records, and production documentation.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to company policies, procedures, safety & continual improvement of EHS performance, registered standards, company policy, integrity, ethics, and legal compliance.
  • Complies with all quality assurance procedures and policies to ensure best quality product output.
  • Maintains stellar attendance.
  • Works overtime as required.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Travel: Generally, travel is not required.

Work Environment: The environment is in a manufacturing setting. The manufacturing environment is subject to moderate changes in temperature and the employee will be exposed to typical hazards of noise, flying debris, and overhead hazards requiring the use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
