Dover Precision Components (DPC) is hiring a Design Engineer II. We offer competitive pay and benefits, career advancement opportunities, and the ability to be a key contributor on the fluid film bearings, high tolerance component Engineering Team. This role can be located at either our South Houston, TX (11951 North Spectrum BLVD) or Waukesha, WI (N 17 Riverwood Dr) facility. This role can be hybrid- remote. Work 3 days a week at the facility and 2 days remotely if you'd like.

 

In this role, you will interpret Engineering instructions and requirements to create high tolerance, multiple component mechanical 3D models and drawings that meet the application requirements by utilizing knowledge and experience combined with standard design practices. You will check assembly and component drawings, part structures (BOMs), and item specific information for accuracy of design intent and application specific information. You will also participate in and contribute to process improvement and design for manufacturability activities as well as in the development and implementation of company-wide design standards and practices that reflect industry best practices and improved efficiency.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Review customer requirements to create custom designed fluid film bearing solutions.
  • Generate and maintain 3D models, associated 2D drawings within Product Data Management (PDM) via the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process.
  • Create Item and Part Structure (BOM) information within ERP system.
  • Perform checking duties on assembly and component level drawings.
  • Provide guidance to other Design Engineers and Drafters.
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel and engineering to ensure design requirements are met and the best manufacturing processes are used.
  • Lead, participate in, and contribute to process improvement and design for manufacturability activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals.
  • Support manufacturing personnel with evaluations of deviated components, corrective action investigations and other quality related activities.
  • Support engineering process development and design for manufacturability efforts through specific assignments as directed by Engineering Management.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years engineered bearings experience, preferably fluid film bearings.
  • Experienced with precision design and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of engineering principles and design practices.
  • Extensive 3D modeling software experience.
  • Demonstrated and formalized problem solving, and use of continuous improvement techniques.
  • Ability to utilize precision measuring and surveying instruments such as calipers, inside/outside micrometers, depth gages, and surfaces gages.
  • Experience reading & developing engineering design prints with geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
  • Demonstrated ability to create ideas and develop structured solutions using project management methodologies.
  • Strong computer skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
