Senior Tax and Compliance Analyst

In this role you’ll be… part of the Markem-Imaje North America and Mexico Finance Center of Excellence (NAM COE) team; responsible for sales tax and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements; preparing, reviewing and reconciling sales and personal property tax returns and related accounts, performing technical analysis presenting with clarity and confidence, drafting tax position, supporting and analyzing tax and compliance regulations, audit requests, communicating with internal and external parties to resolve tax queries, file business licenses, annual reports, supporting compliance controls review, performing SOX compliance controls testing, assist with special projects and other related general accounting and clerical functions.

 

You’ll have an opportunity to… be part of a global service organization engaging with the NAM COE, Markem-Imaje Commercial and Operational teams, Blue Bite Operational teams, and Dover Business Services (DBS). Gather relevant information about industry regulations while staying up to date on tax and compliance best practices. The Senior Tax and Compliance Analyst will lead various aspects of the tax and compliance cycles, including the Core Internal Controls (CIC) cycle for the region, liaising with financial auditors, assisting customers, working with various stakeholders and leaders throughout the organization.

 

Principal Activities/Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare adjusting entries as needed
  • Record and file customer tax exemption forms
  • Prepare all sales and use tax returns for US and Canada
  • Reconcile sales and property taxes to the general ledger
  • Research state legislations to determine relevant taxability
  • Collaborate to resolve customer tax payment discrepancies
  • Work with ICT and VERTEX to solve sales/use tax database queries
  • File all required types of filings and payments accurately and timely
  • Liaise with tax auditors and manage communication and deliverables 
  • Improving efficiencies of sales tax return processing through automation
  • Analyze, document and present financial data related to tax and compliance
  • Collaborate with inhouse Shared Service Center (DBS), Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Purchasing to resolve inquiries related to tax
  • Business license and Annual Report filings
  • Propose, design and implement controls
  • Business Process SOX compliance testing
  • Validate SOX CIC’s are operating effectively
  • Collaborate with SOX Process Owners to verify validity of local controls
  • Participate in process improvement projects and other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or tax
  • 5 to 10 years of tax and compliance experience, preferably in a senior or supervisory capacity
  • Requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within deadlines
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Possess strong customer service skills
  • Tax Software experience required
  • VERTEX Software experience a plus
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Audit experience a preferred
  • Business Process Controls experience a plus
  • ERP experience a plus, preferably SAP
  • Experience in a Matrix Organization a plus

 

*Hybrid work mode – required to be in the office on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s.
