Position Summary:

The Product Manager is tasked with managing their product portfolios throughout the product lifecycle from planning to execution in support of organizational strategy and objectives.  This position is responsible for category management, product line complexity reduction, margin enhancement and the planning / execution of new product development. This position include the development of a comprehensive product growth strategy, support of the global sales effort, and development of new products and strategies for the assigned product lines across specialty and self-contained business segments. This Product Manger must work with a cross functional team of stakeholders at multiple locations to understand problems and find innovative solutions.  This position reports to the Director of Product Management in Richmond, VA.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Growth Plans: Develop and execute short (annual) and long-term (5-years) growth strategies. Deliverables include product, technology and service roadmap and growth plan business case.
  • Margin Enhancement & Share Gain: Work with cross functional team to implement AOP initiatives to enhance profitability & gain participation
  • Product Definition: Develop comprehensive product definitions including models, base configurations and required options enabling guided selling and portfolio simplification
  • Market Knowledge & Competitive Analysis: Develop a library of market segments and applications and identify what products are required to be successful in these areas. Determine market size (revenue, units), growth and opportunity for each collaborating with corporate market research. Identify share and position in the market and develop plans to secure or grow share & market position. Perform competitor analysis including SWOT, pricing, features and product breadth comparison. Identify market drivers and customer buying behaviors.
  • Pricing: Provide existing pricing guidance/maintenance and work with pricing team to develop pricing for new products using pricing strategy including value based pricing, positioning, monetization and competitor analysis. Collaborate with enterprise pricing group on strategic pricing initiatives.
  • Product Positioning: Clearly identify target customers and market, primary benefit, and value proposition of the product.
  • Complexity Reduction: Product simplification, core definition & product lifecycle management of assigned product lines
  • Customer and Market Centricity: Maintain market focus by regular contact with customers, sales and marketing. This includes responsibility for conducting distributor and end user training. Work closely with sales management to provide forums to interact with customers in identifying growth opportunities and new product development ideas.
  • Voice-of-the-Customer (VOC): Perform regular VOC to identify market trends, market drivers, customer satisfaction level needs and buying behavior.
  • Marketing Communication: Work closely with Marketing in areas of advertising, promotion  marketing campaigns and driving go to market product launch efforts.
  • Product Support: Provide Sales, Customers and Channel Partners with support, information and materials to learn about products and applications including content for location universities.
  • Design Center Collaboration & Support: work closely with corporate design center in understanding store design specifications, customer programs/themes and provide product solutions to meet store design needs
  • Provide project management support for major cross-functional projects as well as product management projects.
  • Attend regional and national sales meetings and conferences
  • Ability to present products via internet conferencing, in-person meetings, tradeshows or other industry events
  • Assist with other strategic projects and related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of experience in Product Management, Market Analysis, Category Management, Sales Management, New Product Engineering or similar role

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering or related field

Masters degree or MBA preferred


Desired Qualifications:

Experience in food retail or refrigeration industry preferred

Experience in understanding consumer needs. Possess a commercial mindset and comprehension of marketing and sales principles

Understanding of data analysis and forecasting methods

Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in a fast paced environment

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization

Ability to multi-task balancing multiple competing priorities and projects at the same time

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Strong PC skills—including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
