Focused Factory Manager

General Function:  Responsible for the safe operation and cost-effective management of Belvac’s Bedford County Facility by performing the following duties personally or through direct reports. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in adhering to Belvac’s Basic Beliefs and Vision Statement to ensure that a highly motivated, well-trained and self-managed workforce exists and is maintained.
  • Responsible for the development and compliance of safety, health, and environmental policies.  Ensure adequate training and monitoring of adherence to OSHA regulatory requirements. 
  • Develop and maintain a detailed a business plan to support production requirements across the product lines.
  • Develop Capital Approval Requests (CAR) as required to support business plans.  CAR’s will be written in clear and concise language to adequately justify return on investments and alternatives analyzed.  
  • Support the Belvac Management System including maintenance of documentation and records, adherence to procedures and instructions, auditing of procedures, and training for all employees within the manager's defined area of responsibilities.  Ensure proper work instructions exist to adequately key employees functions.
  • Utilize Lean Sigma Tools (5S, Waste Elimination, Pull Production, Visual Management, Standard Work, PDCS, DMAIC, etc.) to drive continuous improvement and root cause analysis. Lead Kaizen/PDCA Events and Continuous Improvement Teams to improve processes and resolve issues.
  • Utilize capacity planning analysis to assure proper planning and execution to achieve on time delivery of products in all business conditions.  Assure sufficient internal or external manufacturing capacity to meet the expedited or unplanned requirements of the business.  Work closely with the Supply Chain organization to utilize external suppliers to balance capacity and productivity levels within Belvac.
  • Effectively provide mentoring and coaching to maximize employee performance.  Timely management and administration of salary and hourly performance evaluations.
  • Full budgetary responsibility and accountability for all areas managed. Routinely monitor and make cost management decisions.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPI’s) to monitor business performance objectives.  Address KPI’s by analyzing root cause issues and implement corrective actions to achieve required objectives.
  • Responsible for effective leadership and project management of assigned objectives and tasks.  This includes creating project implementation plans, timelines, and written reports detailing progress to milestone objectives.
  • Ensures proper compliance to inventory policies and effective control management.
  • Coordinate shipment logistics with Sales and Supply Chain to control costs.
  • Schedules and directs the daily activities of all stockroom personnel, including Shipping, Receiving within the facility.
  • Resolves issues concerning general warehouse functions, such as vendor discrepancies, inventory accuracy, over/short and damages, along with return authorizations. 
  • Responsible for review of department processes and procedures, enforcement of processes and procedure and updating as necessary to promote continuous improvement of the department.
  • Assures production schedules and scheduled delivery dates are met throughout manufacturing.  Communicates customer shipment commitments throughout manufacturing operations and evaluates performance against those commitments
  • Reviews production and operating reports and schedules to resolve operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure minimal costs and to prevent operational delays.
  • Responsible for setting and monitoring performance of cost reduction objectives.
  • Assure an environment exists that motivates and develops all manufacturing personnel to optimize performance, promote professional and personal growth and creates a team based self-managed workforce.
  • Responsible for communication to the entire team for all aspects of companywide objectives, performance to objectives and the strategic direction.

 

Education

  • A B.S. or B.A. in Business, Engineering or Materials Planning with a Masters in Business Administration strongly preferred. 
  • Lean Certification or Minimum of Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of ten (10) years experience in a manufacturing environment with specific experience in machining of very tight tolerance components in discrete engineered-to-order  environment, assembling of large capital equipment, fabrication, and the planning and control utilizing a companywide integrated ERP system. 
  • Direct experience utilizing the lean tools (TPM) to drive continuous improvement, reduce costs, and improve lead-times.  Direct experience in leading change (Kaizen events) with direct and indirect personnel. 
  • Experience managing low volume, engineered to order components and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams. 
  • This position must be capable of withstanding and diffusing the stress associated with a dynamic business environment.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to develop detailed reports and correspondence, and ability to speak effectively before large groups of people.
