General Function:     Sets up and operate manual and CNC grinding machines to grind work-pieces, such as tool, die and machine parts, usually for limited runs, analyzing blueprints and specifications and selecting tooling according to knowledge of grinding procedures.  Studies blueprint or layout on work-piece to visualize grinding to be done and plans sequence of operations


Primary Responsibilities Labor Grade 2  Grinder C:

  • It is every BPM, Inc. Employee’s responsibility to be aware of and work with Belvac's current documented Quality Management System as it pertains to their job requirements
  • Dressing of wheel - std.
  • Selection and use of grinding magnets
  • Plunge grinding techniques
  • Traverse grinding techniques
  • Face grinding techniques
  • Use of diamond dressers
  • Setting machine stops
  • General machine set-up principles
  • Recognizing tool wear
  • Follow established Safety Policies and Procedures
  • All employees performing a work sequence on any work order are required to physically move and transact the material to the next sequence once their task has been completed.
  • All employees utilizing dispatch sheets shall run jobs in date sequence without exception, unless directed otherwise by cognizant Manager and/or Production Planners.
  • It is every employee’s responsibility to improve processes to reduce set-up and run-time standards.  This shall be a performance measure during all employee evaluations.
  • Reads prints, job order, tooling instructions or standard charts to determine product specifications, work-holding arrangement, cutting speeds, feed rates and cutting tools to be used
  • Use of appropriate measuring equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machine center and related equipment.
  • Deburr/Part mark as needed
  • Proper clamping techniques
  • Must keep assigned machine(s) and work area cleaned and neat.
  • Operate at least 1 piece of Grinding equipment


Primary Responsibilities Labor Grade 3 Grinder B:

  • Selection and use of wheel types/styles
  • Selection and use of feeds/speeds
  • Use of magnetic parallels
  • Carbide grinding
  • Proper use of diamond wheels
  • Operates must run at least 2 functionally different pieces of Grinding equipment, i.e. Flat/O.D. / I.D. / CNC
  • Remove taper


Primary Responsibilities Labor Grade 4 Grinder A:

  • Must be able to program at machine
  • Form dressing of wheels
  • Angle grinding - use of sine plates
  • Use of math for sine plate calculations
  • Understanding of different material types
  • Relief grinding
  • Grinding grooves
  • Wheel balancing
  • Operates must run at least 3 functionally different pieces of Grinding equipment, i.e. Flat / O.D. / I.D. / CNC



HS Diploma or Equivalent Certificate


Physical Requirements:

  • Requires long periods of standing (up to 10 hours/day)
  • Must be able to operate overhead cranes
  • Although all production areas have overhead cranes, on occasion Manufacturing, Stockroom and Assembly employees may choose to lift items by hand for convenience.  It is the responsibility of all employees to follow correct lifting techniques and seek help or utilize mechanical lifting aids as appropriate to avoid potential injury.
  • Requires good eye, hand coordination
  • Requires use of hand tools, files, sanders and grinders
