Supervisor, Quality Assurance

General Function:     

This position supervises the Quality Assurance team of inspectors, programmers and metrology, schedules work hours, directs the daily activities across multiple facility sites and drives a customer first mindset throughout the team. This position is responsible for establishing Quality Assurance and Control, while enforcing compliance to process, product, tooling and systems specifications. This role supports the continuous improvement culture throughout the company and the policies that define the Quality Management System. This is a working supervisor that schedules work hours and directs the daily activities of all Quality Technicians and Inspection employees.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • It is every BPM, Inc. Employee’s responsibility to be aware of and work with  Belvac’s current documented Quality Management System as it pertains to their job requirements.
  • Identify and communicate the business daily inspection priorities from the Inspection Management system and production meetings. This also includes inspection flow effectiveness to support the OTD of machines, spare parts and tooling.
  • Manage and maintain the Company’s quality inspection and product release programs for incoming and in-process materials, components, processes and finished goods.
  • Develop and implement the inspection management plans for product and tools that includes 100% inspection, AOL sampling and/or dock to stock based on historic internal or external supplier performance.
  • Build effective metrology labs across the facilities with supporting equipment, methods, fixturing and visual standards for the inspection of product and tooling that comply to quality control standards and specifications.
  • Support the Engineering Deviation process.
  • Initiates product and tooling non-conforming records (NCR) in QMTS based on defective material inspected. This also includes directing disposition and corrective action assignments through QMTS of NCRs initiated by an area outside of quality.
  • Responsible for accurate transactions of the control of non-conforming product material moves in the MRP and MRB system to complete work orders & jobs. This includes containment of inventory, transit and in process parts.
  • Analyze facts or circumstances surrounding quality related issues to determine what action should be taken within the limits of standard practices and procedures. Consult with engineering for final disposition of parts and tooling outside of specification.
  • Champions and/or support root cause problem solving of defective parts and consults with all other areas (Ex: Engineering on final dispositions) as required using the QMTS system. This may include part(s) RTV back to the supplier as required. All costs associated with supplier defects are charged back to the supplier.
  • Manage the Gage Calibration and maintenance processes and systems. This includes the accuracy and timeliness of the gage tracking system and calibration due dates. It also includes evaluation of the performance and effectiveness of the quality management system and retaining of related records as evidence.
  • Manage the assembly build quality support for machine build QA signoffs, videos, documentation and uploads. This also includes acting as the customer Buy-off representative and administering the Buy-off survey as a quality designate.
  • Support the ISO9001 certification for external and internal audits, quality metrics, standard work and training.
  • Provide the supplier First Article inspections and results reporting for evaluation.
  • Manage the Engineering CO related quality related actions to insure containment and effective disposition of product and tooling per instructions.
  • Responsible for compilation, integrity and maintenance of inspection reports and records.

Continuous Improvement

  • Support business initiatives in transitioning a growing culture of continuous improvement and high performance. This includes identifying and communicating recommendations for business quality improvements and value generating opportunities within the organization.
  • Makes improvement suggestions on procedures, work instructions, standards and equipment to facilitate work and maintain product quality.
  • Manage the OIL Board process in the Quality department, achieve targets and submit monthly results.
  • Responsible for 5S Improvement, safety and audits of the Quality Inspection areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong high performing Quality process teams to meet agreed upon objectives and deliver sustainable best practice results and value. This includes the identification and fulfilment of training needs related to CMM operation, programing, QMTS, IFS, Engineering Vault, metrology, GD&T, etc.
  • Maintain policies, discipline and a motivational climate within the team.
  • Perform employee mentoring, administration, performance appraisals and career planning. 
  • Investigate and promptly manage personnel related issues within the team. Effectively provide recommendations to goals and objectives, promotions, wage adjustments, resource hiring and terminations.
  • Conduct consistent weekly team meetings following an identified standard agenda.
  • Maintain a high level of customer support.
  • Support in the development and maintenance of the quality budget, resource requirements and capital expenditures
  • Required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

 

Principal Working Relationship:

  • Effectively interact with Operations, Assembly, Stockroom, all other support teams and suppliers to maintain product and tooling integrity, flow and introduction of new products.
  • Provide back-up representation for quality management system issues in the absence of Director, Corporate Quality
  • Provide technical expertise to the team and business as required.

 

Education: HS Diploma, education equivalent or certified to a completed accredited apprenticeship training program with relevant Quality Management Systems and/or manufacturing knowledge focus and experience.

 

Qualifications/ Experience:  Minimum of 3 years supervisory or Quality Inspection Lead role experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Working knowledge of Inspection and Quality Control methods, techniques and metrology equipment.
  • Working knowledge on a wide variety of measuring instruments, complicated engineering drawings, GD&T, and risk assessment.
  • Must possess computer skills; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and business operating systems
  • Effective Supplier relations and experience
  • Good communications skills, effective customer service and demonstrated leadership ability required.
