Supervisor Assembly Operations

General Function: Supervisor daily activities associated with assembly and paint departments.  Provide leadership, training and motivation for employees who build mechanical & electrical sub-assemblies, and paint services integrated into O.E.M. machinery.  Create a self-motivated workforce with a common goal to meet on time delivery while assuring quality standards are maintained for machinery and spare part assemblies. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervisors are responsible for implementation and maintenance of the Belvac Quality Management System including maintenance of documentation and records, adherence to procedures and instructions for all employees within the Supervisor's defined area of responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership in adhering to Belvac’s Basic Beliefs and Vision Statement to help assure a highly motivated, well trained and self-managed workforce.
  • Develop and implement assembly processes and procedures that support the Q.M.S. and stated business objectives.
  • Provide annual performance appraisals for those managed.
  • Must have a demonstrated record of implementing change or acting as a change agent in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong project management skills to effectively manage concurrent assembly schedules for large O.E.M. machinery.
  • Significant experience and success in several of the following management disciplines or philosophies: Toyota Production Systems, Lean Initiatives, 5S or 6S Principles, J.I.T. management of inventory, Visual Factory Concepts, Demand Flow Technology, Managed Kaizen Events and Process Improvement Teams.
  • Provide Design Engineering detailed input to assist the configuration of B.O.M.’s that promote efficiency gains and lead-time reduction.
  • Maximize state-of-the-art technology and operating strategies on manufacturing equipment such as the laser to realize throughput and efficiency gains.
  • Develop employee redundancy in all areas and functions managed.
  • Assure all machinery is in an acceptable state of readiness for internal buy-off.
  • Recognize labor shortfall prior to becoming critical to on time delivery.  Implement temporary or reallocated labor as necessary to remain on schedule.
  • Develop internal program to provide training for new employees, reallocated employees and/or contract labor.
  • Lead all employees supervised to understand their role in customer satisfaction.
  • Motivate and develop departmental personnel to optimize their performance and their professional and personnel growth to create a team based self-managed workforce.
  • Full budgetary responsibility and accountability for areas managed.
  • Compile and evaluate data as necessary to measure performance to stated objectives.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions as necessary when performance measurements are not met or in jeopardy.
  • Work with other Operations Supervisors to maximize consignment inventory.
  • Successful completion of tasks, projects or objectives assigned by Manager.
  • Capable of using Inventory, Manufacturing, Engineering and Financial systems currently in use by Belvac.
  • Other job duties as assigned

 

Experience:

  • Working knowledge of PC-based software, i.e. Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and MRP software utilized company wide.
  • Experience to include manpower supervision, budgeting, scheduling and project management.
  • This position must be capable of withstanding and diffusing the stress associated with a dynamic business environment.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in one or more of the following: machine maintenance, hands-on production or assembly experience. construction or designing.

 

 

Education

  • High School diploma or GED

Preferred Formal Education

  • Associate Degree: Technical certificates or an associate degree in production processing, manufacturing technology, or business management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree: A four-year degree in mechanical or industrial engineering, operations management, or business administration is highly valued.

Recommended Certifications & Skills

  • Lean/Six Sigma: Certifications demonstrate an ability to reduce waste and improve assembly line efficiency.
  • OSHA Certification: Ensures a strong foundational knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Supply Chain Credentials: Certifications like the APICS CPIM show expertise in inventory and production management.
