Commodity Specialist

Part of Dover Corporation’s Engineered Systems segment, Vehicle Service Group (VSG) is a strong, diverse and dynamic global leader in the vehicle service industry. VSG comprises 13 major vehicle lifting, wheel service, diagnostic and collision repair brands: Rotary Lift®, Chief®, Forward®, Direct-Lift®, Ravaglioli, Hanmecson®, Revolution®, Elektron, Blitz, Nogra, Butler, Space and Sirio.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for performing assigned duties to optimize the effectiveness of the supply chain function.  Responsibilities including planning, inventory control, kanban implementation/utilization, lead-time reduction, engineering change notice/new product launch material planning, total cost reduction activities, and some procurement activity. Under a minimum of supervision, release/order materials and product to established supply base insuring satisfactory quality and delivery to meet Company objectives and customer requirements.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  1. Assures optimum inventory/kanban levels and on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements while minimizing carrying costs and transportation charges.
  2. Materials planning for release and/or ordering of materials and supplies to achieve on-time deliveries at the optimum inventory investment.  Investigates and solves problems resulting from material shortages.
  3. Performs data analysis on commodities for negotiations and supplier performance.  May be involved in negotiations.
  4. Analyzes opportunities for standardization and supports associated projects.
  5. Follows materials practices, contracts, assessments, and policies to insure honest, fair, and ethical relationships with our suppliers.
  6. Implements policies/procedures/processes that ensure the accurate processing of inventory and production transactions. Includes responsibility for the kanban process for material delivery.
  7. Manages assigned commodities for inventory/data integrity, cycle counts, obsolete/excess inventory, returned material, engineering change notice/new product launch material planning, and supplier performance evaluation.
  8. Prepares and issues all necessary reports and/or correspondence.
  9. Participate as team member on material continuous improvement teams for the management of material processes.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Applies a sense of urgency to resolve problems or create opportunities that will increase productivity and create value. Shares best practices with other employees across the business.
  15. Accountability: Accepts responsibility and accountability for both the strategic planning and the successful implementation of all projects/programs/duties as outlined in this job description. Advises supervisor of concerns, problems and progress of work in a timely manner. Demonstrates a sound balance between quality and quantity of work while maintaining a sense of urgency toward completion.  Deadlines are met.  

 

CONTACTS (Internal and External):

Moderate telephone and personal contact as well as some written communication with suppliers in placing or expediting releases and performing essential job functions. Extensive internal personal contact with purchasing personnel and moderate contact with design and manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, operation manager, shop floor personnel, and receiving/shipping personnel.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education: High school graduate with minimum 2 years of college with the ability

 to read blueprints. College degree preferred. Basic understanding of machine

capabilities and shop processes beneficial, including machine tooling and

production and fabrication processes.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience in materials and/or purchasing or

industrial and/or related field experience.

Supervision: Works under limited supervision. Handles routine matters on

own initiative.

Responsibility: Exercises moderate degree of judgment. All questions and

direction setting are referred to supervisor.
