POSITION TITLE:  Plant Manager

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Operations

 

SUMMARY:  Responsible for the overall management of VSG Madison operations in terms of profitability and long term viability through the effective and efficient production of assigned products. While immediate focus and  responsibility will be for running the manufacturing operation to meet schedules, plans and budgets. Immediate responsibilities include:  Responsible for efficient utilization of plant personnel, material and equipment. Responsible for performance to unit budgets and financial goals. Plan and implement both short and long term operations improvements. Set operation leadership example and policies for manufacturing and salary support positions. Supervise manufacturing operations and manufacturing salary support positions with expense control responsibility. Responsible for the implementation of World Class (or Lean) Manufacturing within our operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise all manufacturing operations including people, equipment, and processes. Facilitates the production to meet customer orders including measuring this with on time delivery, customer complaints, and customer returned goods.
  • Manage manufacturing support operations to ensure on time delivery of product shipments consistent with customer expectations. 
  • Conduct long term planning and project implementation to ensure timely delivery of cost reduction control activities.
  • Plan and set operation goals and schedules consistent with company strategic directions and customer demands.
  • Responsible for compliance to all environmental, health and safety, hazardous materials, and government related regulations.
  • Provide leadership of plant safety consistent with a goal of zero injuries.
  • Communicate with all manufacturing and salary support staff to ensure smooth flow of information and execution of plans.
  • Administer control of all cost centers within budgetary guidelines and financial operating plans.
  • Set operational policies and procedures for the manufacturing operations and assure consistent implementation.
  • Participate in product planning, development and rationalization of existing and new products including: marketing, features, design, manufacturing, and distribution of products.
  • Evaluate performance of manufacturing and support personnel through formal review system and informal coaching sessions. Ensure the documentation of personnel and operational related issues.
  • Improve operational efficiency and reduce waste through the implementation of World Class (or Lean) manufacturing methodologies.
  • Daily review of manufacturing areas for hands on evaluation of performance, quality, safety and housekeeping issues.
  • Attend daily production meetings to ensure progress of scheduled shipments and communication of operation needs and changes.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.  Key development drivers include:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or Business is required. A master’s of business administration is preferred. 
  • At least five years of operational or plant management experience in an industrial facility is required.  

 

Travel:  Must be willing to travel as needed – including both domestic and international travel.
