VSG Trade Compliance Manager – The Americas

The Trade Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing and improving trade policies and processes as well as performing related functions and activities to ensure compliant trade operations at VSG – The Americas. Policies and processes must adhere to all applicable U.S. and non-U.S. laws, regulations, and VSG/Dover policies. These processes must be maintained, audited, and improved as needed. This position will work and collaborate with many functions – Compliance, Engineering, Finance, IT, Logistics, and Supply Chain. In addition to trade responsibilities, there will be general compliance activities required in this position. A successful candidate requires a strong intellect and sound judgement in these areas.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist with, oversee, and improve existing trade compliance and customs functions for North American locations, including import and export functions, and broker and forwarder management.
  • Where needed, develop and/or improve and implement robust and sustainable global trade and compliance policies and processes that adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Develop and lead effective training for those involved in the import and export trade processes and maintain the related training records.
  • Conduct internal monitoring and auditing to ensure trade processes are followed.
  • Be the point of contact for import and export compliance matters for the Americas.
  • Work with brokers and oversee customs documentation.  Work with third party logistics company as needed.
  • Assist in compliance with global customs laws and regulations, working with team members globally and with Dover resources. Projects may include harmonized tariff schedules, customs valuations, and customs assists.
  • Monitor and assist with interpretation of applicable regulations and implement changes to the import/export process to meet new requirements.
  • Perform annual and ongoing FTA qualification for USMCA and any other FTA that may be utilized.
  • Perform risk assessment and identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability; develop/implement corrective action plans as needed.
  • Manage the customs bonds used for imports/exports.
  • Manage broker relationships. Update or expand broker SOPs and maintain POAs according to Dover guidelines.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage trade compliance KPIs.
  • Remediate any trade related internal audit issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with the VSG Compliance Director on trade and other compliance initiatives and projects.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Operations, International Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years’ experience in U.S. export/import regulations and global trade compliance.
  • U.S. Customs Broker’s License desired but not necessary.
  • Knowledge of the HS Classification process.
  • Experience implementing customs and trade requirements into ERP systems preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of Special Programs including Free Trade Agreements (USMCA).
  • Experience with 301 & 232 tariffs.
  • Experience navigating complex global trade compliance issues.


  • This position will be responsible for the Madison, IN and Portland, OR (Warn) VSG locations. The candidate is expected to be on-site in Madison, IN for most work hours and days, although some remote work may be possible.
