Trade Compliance Analyst

Job Summary:

As part of the Global Compliance office, the Trade Compliance Analyst supports the Trade Compliance activities in the (insert region) region and supports the business and functions in preventing and resolving issues that may otherwise result in border delays. This role interacts with the Global Trade Compliance organization and participates in work groups to define the Global Trade Compliance standards for Markem-Imaje. This role is a primary Trade Compliance point of contact providing guidance to the business.

A key responsibility of this role is to help enable the business to fully comply with all relevant trade compliance laws and regulations. Close collaboration with Global Trade Compliance, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics, Customer Service, Replenishment and Sourcing as well as relevant Government Authorities is required to successfully enable compliance.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Support the Regional Trade Compliance Manager in implementing the Global Trade Compliance (GTC) standards and procedures to enable compliance with all relevant trade compliance laws & regulations in the countries throughout the region.
• Monitor and analyze impacts of changes in local and regional import/export laws and regulations, align business processes with these changes & evolutions
• Interface+ with internal and external customers in trade compliance matters, including regulatory agencies
• Interact with cross functional teams to increase awareness of key strategic developments in the GTC area, collaborates with Global Trade Compliance organization and wider Global Compliance Office
• Determine HS/Customs and, where applicable, Export Control Classification and Country of Origin Determination   
• Deploy trainings linked to global and/or regional trade compliance requirements, help in the preparation of training material and record training participation
• Participate in trainings in line with the MI Training Policy to stay updated on relevant trade compliance laws & regulations under all relevant jurisdictions and on changes to the M-I trade compliance policies and procedures, in short the MI Trade Compliance Program 
• Develop and manage /deploy import/export compliance processes and procedures, participate in work groups to support the development/deployment of such processes and procedures, this includes Denied & Restricted party screening processes
• Conduct internal reviews to identify risks. Develop corrective action plans based on findings and follow actions through until complete
• Maintain auditable standards, prepare and support internal & external audits, in close collaboration with the RTCM and the GCO and working groups
• Support and execute the customs broker management program across the region. Develop KPIs and monitor metrics.
• Ensure that post or pre-entry check process for imports and exports are managed properly by the operations of the region and participate with Global Logistics to the customs broker periodic performance review.
• Administer import/export brokerage services as required
• Maintain and manage Assist database to ensure accurate values are reported to relevant customs authorities for duty purposes
• Serve as back-up for the Regional Trade Compliance Manager or other Analysts as required and appropriate
• Report and escalate to the Regional Trade Compliance Manager, the GTC or the Director Trade Compliance/CCO as needed, including but not limited to any issues or potential violations
• Ensure recordkeeping compliance in line with the Dover/MI requirements
• Additionally, to back up the Know your customer and restricted party screening process of all parties globally involved in the export, re-export and in country transfer of MI commodities, software and technology using specialized tools. This include: Manage release decisions or escalate to the relevant levels seeking release decisions, channel release decisions to requestors and stakeholders

Key Competencies:

• Working knowledge of the following regulations: regional import/export regulations, HS and ECCN classification, product origin, customs valuation, Free Trade Agreements, US EAR and/or EU Dual-Use regulations or elements hereof
• Knowledge of effective Corporate Trade Compliance Programs a plus
• A team player with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Confident, ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization
• Good change management agent, open-minded, result-oriented, pro-active, good listener
• Business focused, highly detail oriented/analytical, and adaptive to change
• Works well under pressure and has the ability to set priorities, drives actions until complete, quality-oriented approach of work
• Experience in product /chemical controls a plus
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• SAP user experience is a plus
• Effective verbal and written communication in English, German, French or Spanish a plus
• Available to travel <10%

Qualifications and Experience:

Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade or related field/equivalent qualification.  3-5 years of trade compliance background in a fast-paced industry.

Comment:

Specific focus of the role will be defined each year by the RTCM and Director Trade Compliance/CCO in cooperation with the incumbent via the performance goals and other projects/ assignments.
