Position Summary:  This position is responsible for general ledger maintenance and accuracy, controls compliance (SOX) and ensuring all financial reporting is in accordance with current accounting policies and US GAAP.  Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will play a key role acting as a financial consultant to internal teams, leaders and finance team members.  This role will provide leadership to Accounts Payable and General Accounting teams.  This role requires leadership, knowledge and competencies in areas beyond traditional accounting functions.  To be successful in this position, the ability to organize, multitask and leverage process improvements is critical.

Essential Job Functions Include: 

 

  • Responsible for month-end close process and day-to-day accounting operation, including general ledger maintenance, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash, fixed assets, financial reporting, financial statement and account variance review and analysis.  Leads data input to the Dover reporting system (Khalix).  Insures all monthly account reconciliations are completed in an accurate and timely fashion. 

  • Assists with ensuring companywide compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and all other internal control initiatives to include controls testing. 

  • Assists in the collection and compilation of data for all domestic and statutory tax reporting, filings, and financial statement disclosures.  This includes all tax accruals, quarterly estimate calculations and payments. 

  • Supports the annual financial and Sarbanes-Oxley audits.  Ensures implementation of corrective actions to address any audit concerns in areas of responsibility. 

  • Supports annual budget preparation, implementation and monthly reviews and analysis. 

  • Responsible for review for accuracy, completeness and strategic alignment along with obtaining approval for all capital project requests companywide. 

  • Simplify processes to maximize daily accounting operations. 

  • Aid in the development of presentations and monthly reports for management and finance leadership. 

  • Address ad-hoc requests and resolve issues arising from daily accounting functions. 

  • Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned area.

Availability Requirements: 

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions of this position, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers and employees, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence on-site and after-hours.   

 

The required number of hours will vary depending on what is required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position.  This position will require availability and accessibility to respond to and address emergencies and critical situations outside of normal business operating hours in the early mornings, evenings and/or during weekends. 

 

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out of area travel may be expected. 

 

Education and/or Experience: 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related is required. 

  • MBA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent preferred.   

  • Public accounting experience preferred. 

  • Minimum of five or more years accounting experience in a fast-paced, professional manufacturing organization. 

 

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities: 

 

  • Must possess strong accounting background with expertise in GAAP financial reporting. 

  • Must have strong Microsoft Office and mid-large ERP system experience.  JD Edwards or Oracle experience preferred.  SharePoint experience preferred.  Advanced Excel skills are required. 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills commensurate with the job tasks and position necessary to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external customers while providing exceptional quality of work and outstanding customer service. Ability to present information in a manner designed to educate or inform other team members and customers in one-on-one or group interactions as directed. 

  • Ability to review, comprehend, interpret, process and evaluate effectively written work instructions and procedures written in English in conjunction with the performance of the essential functions and other assigned job duties.

The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.  This position’s job duties are performed generally in a shop or warehouse type environment.  Team members in this position may be exposed to loud noises from operating machinery, cold temperatures, chemicals and vapors, and possibly injury associated with work involving manufactured parts, assembly and heavy machinery.  The team member may also occasionally be required to work in an office environment with traditional office lighting and office furniture, as well as consistent and frequent noise, interruptions and other similar distractions.
