Position Summary:
This position works with minimal supervision and applies knowledge of Quality Engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments. Provides Quality Engineering / Six Sigma support to assigned Warn Automotive processes. Works with Manufacturing and Quality Assurance personnel to define problems and problem solution strategies, develops training material for the application of quality engineering principles and techniques such as Design of Experiments and Statistical Process Control, and provides small and large group training using those materials. Additionally, the Quality Engineer may be asked to provide training on all elements of TQC.
Essential Job Functions Include:
- Prioritize and complete assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities, availability of resources and assisting other team members as needed.
- Monitor, review and update Control Plans, Process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (PFMEA’s) and associated documentation.
- Statistically monitor quality outputs from assigned areas. Utilize problem solving techniques to improve/eliminate quality issues as they arise.
- Develop, monitor and improve measurement systems used by production staff. Perform Gauge R&R studies as necessary.
- Represents Warn Automotive in communication with customer quality representatives.
- Facilitate timely closure of Customer Quality issues related to QR’s, 8D’s, certified stock, alerts, etc.
- Monitor warranty returns in assigned areas and perform analysis to develop/execute plans to reduce/eliminate causes of warranty failures.
- Understand Customer Requirements and ensure they are met in all assigned value streams and Quality Management System (QMS).
- Manage Material Review Board (MRB) for assigned areas.
- Monitor KPI’s against expectations and develop/execute improvement plans in collaboration with the Quality Manager or designee.
- Manage corrective actions and/or quality related projects involving manufacturing areas/QMS.
- May coordinate multiple large projects simultaneously.
- Design and develop inspections processes and documented procedures. Summarize and document inspection results to include internal auditing and all associated aspects.
- Collaborate with Warn Automotive leadership and team members during team meetings, value stream meetings, system reviews, safety meetings, and other forms of problem-solving discussions to further define and improve department strategies designed to meet and exceed quality and safety objectives.
- Train team members on process and procedure as directed and provide necessary follow-up and guidance to achieve professional development objectives.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned to meet team, department and organizational goals while actively demonstrating accountability and responsibility for achieving desired outcomes and measurable results.
- Provide sustaining quality engineering support for existing production lines, assisting with projects to reduce scrap rates
- Support new program introduction process; to include production part approval process (PPAP) and works with customers’ project engineers on technical details.
- Support Quality Management System (QMS) to include internal auditing and document control.
- Participate in ensuring Warn Automotive readiness for internal/external quality audits. May assist the Quality Manager in developing the annual audit plan, train internal audit team members, provide communication/reporting of results and assisting during audits.
- Oversee the controlled document system in assigned areas and Quality Management System (QMS), to include a final review of changes to procedures, work instructions, forms, master lists and other associated documents to ensure quality certification requirements are met.
- Develops and presents training material in statistical and or process improvement techniques to adult learners.
- Problem-solve individually or as part of a group as job duties require. May lead such problem-solving activities.
- Work with suppliers and supplier quality on design and development of projects/corrective actions.
- Work safely and without injury.
- Responsible for prompt and regular attendance as scheduled.
- Performs other various duties as may be assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics or CQE certification (or equivalent) with five years of experience in a quality environment.
- Four to eight years of professional experience in a Quality Environment with project leadership responsibilities required.
- Four or more year’s experience in a high volume, manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience training in a classroom environment/and or seminar setting preferred.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- This position requires working knowledge of auditing techniques. A working knowledge of FMEA Process is preferred.
- Ability to successfully operate in a matrix and team environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills commensurate with the job tasks and position necessary to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external customers while providing exceptional quality of work and outstanding customer service. Ability to present information in a manner designed to educate or inform other team members and customers in one-on-one or group interactions as directed.
- Ability to review, comprehend, interpret, process and evaluate effectively written work instructions and procedures written in English, prints, specs and diagrams, and tool gauges, measuring devices and inspection tools in conjunction with the performance of the essential functions and other assigned job duties.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills including ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a calm, rational and respectful demeanor and communication style in times of stress occasioned by work demands, tight timelines, heavy production expectations, unexpected quality control issues, and other work-related issues or concerns that may cause a heightened level of anxiety, frustration, anger, disappointment, confusion, etc.
