Position Summary:


This position works with minimal supervision.  Applies extensive and diversified knowledge of Quality Engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.  Responsible for direct communication with Customer quality representatives.  Provides guidance to other quality engineers/technicians.  Provides Quality Engineering / Six Sigma support to all Warn Automotive’ locations.  Works with Manufacturing and Quality Assurance personnel to define problems and problem solution strategies, develops training material for the application of quality engineering principles and techniques such as Design of Experiments and Statistical Process Control and provides small and large group training using those materials.  Defines and drives critical to quality initiatives.


Essential Functions:


  • Represents Warn Automotive in communication with customer quality representatives.
  • Facilitate timely closure of Customer Quality issues related to QR’s, 8D’s, certified stock, alerts, etc.
  • Provide guidance and training on quality engineering principles to others in the organization.
  • Lead product quality improvement projects.
  • Drive scrap rate reduction.
  • Cross-functional leader providing guidance to Engineers, designers, technicians or other team members to assure successful project completion.
  • Facilitate deployment of Quality performance requirements, initiatives and training to supply base of tools (e.g. Warranty Reduction, Benchmarking, Lean Manufacturing, Reliability and Robustness, 8D methodology, PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis), Control Plan development, SPC (Statistical Process Control), Gage R&R (Repeatability and Reproducibility), etc.) as required.
  • Lead quality activities for new products and programs.
  • Lead and facilitate problem-solving.
  • Facilitate timely closure of supplier process Quality issues related to DMR/Stop Ship/Build.
  • Responsible for prompt and regular attendance as scheduled.
  • Accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in assigned area.  Responsible for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including a self-assessment and report to management.
  • Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned area.

Availability Requirements:

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions of this position, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers and employees, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence on-site and after-hours. 


Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out of area travel may be expected.


Education and/or Experience:


  • Bachelor of Science Degree is preferred, in Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics; or an Associate Degree with five years of job experience in a QE role.
  • Eight or more years of professional experience in a Quality Environment with project leadership responsibilities required.
  • CQE Certification preferred.
  • IATF Lead Auditor certification preferred.
  • Four or more years of experience in a high volume, manufacturing environment.

  • Strong technical, troubleshooting, problem solving, research, organizational and analytical skills, combined with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet established deadlines.  Ability to multitask is also essential while remaining flexible with changing priorities and deadlines. 
  • Well-reasoned decision making with a high attention to detail regarding organization, planning, workflow, and project prioritization to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
  • Highly ethical, self-motivated individual with ability to work independently and/or with limited direction, as well as cooperatively in a team environment, while consistently demonstrating collaborative, respectful and productive work habits.
  • Certified to Audit internal or external processes against ISO 9001:2015.
  • Successfully work in a matrix or team environment.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949.
  • Working knowledge of FMEA Process, using Auto DCP, creating linked documents.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.

  • Move to, from and within the designated work area frequently and consistently throughout the workday and regularly throughout our building and/or across Warn-related property site locations, possibly during inclement weather.
  • Use a personal computer or other technology devices frequently and consistently for the purpose of reviewing, analyzing, creating, transmitting, and presenting documents, data and other business-related information.
  • Lift, transport and/or move up to 20 pounds of weight occasionally in the performance of regular duties.  Occasional bending, stooping, walking up and down stairs, standing on a step stool and kneeling may be required.


Environment/Atmospheric Conditions:


The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.  This position’s job duties are performed generally in a shop or warehouse type environment.  Team members in this position may be exposed to loud noises from operating machinery, cold temperatures, chemicals and vapors, and possibly injury associated with work involving manufactured parts, assembly and heavy machinery.  The team member may also occasionally be required to work in an office environment with traditional office lighting and office furniture, as well as consistent and frequent noise, interruptions and other similar distractions.
