Position Summary:

 

Supplier Quality Engineer develops, communicates, and implements Warn Automotive’s supply base quality strategy.  Supplier Quality Engineer works with suppliers to achieve their quality objective, including supplier rating status, and assists in New Product work (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and resolution of supplier issues.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Drive robust failure mode avoidance through the development and utilization of supplier assessments and 2nd party audits.
  2. Travel up to 25%-50% - including both domestic and international travel
  3. Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing excellence throughout the supply base.
  4. Manage the progression of key suppliers to achieve high performance ratings and manage the deployment of the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process and disciplines into supply base.
  5. Drive deployment of Quality performance requirements, initiatives and training to supply base in tools (e.g. Benchmarking, Lean Manufacturing, Reliability and Robustness, 8D methodology, PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis), SPC (Statistical Process Control), Gage R&R (Repeatability and Reproducibility), etc.) as required.
  6. Provide new location evaluations and Quality data to support sourcing decisions.
  7. Maintain Quality-related database for assigned suppliers.
  8. In coordination with stakeholders, drive closure of supplier process Quality related issues.
  9. Provide information and reports to both internal and external (OEM) customers.
  10. Successfully operate in a matrix or team environment.
  11. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills ensuring clear communication, healthy dialogue, and escalation as needed.
  12. Accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in assigned area.  Responsible for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including a self-assessment and report to management.
  13. Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned area.
  14. Work safely and without injury.
  15. Performs other various duties as may be assigned.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have direct reports.

 

Availability Requirements:

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions of this position, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers and direct reports, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence on-site and after-hours. 

 

The required number of hours / week will vary depending on what is required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position.  This position will require availability and accessibility to respond to and address emergencies and critical situations outside of normal business operating hours in the early mornings, evenings and/or during weekends.

  1. AIAG Core Tools:  Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), Statistical Process Control (SCP) and Product Part Approval Process (PPAP)

  12. Project Planning and management of tasks
  13. Matrix based management of engineers, designers, technicians or other team members to assure successful project completion preferred
  14. Negotiation skills with supplier regarding delivery, timing and other non-price objectives preferred

 

Required Education and/or Experience:

    1. BS degree in engineering, mathematics or related technical focus or equivalent experience
    2. Related ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
    3. Four plus years working in an automotive manufacturing facility or related high-volume production facility
    4. Two plus years Electronics Industry Quality Engineering Experience

Environment/Atmospheric Conditions:

 

The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.  This position’s job duties are performed generally in an office environment with traditional office lighting and office furniture, as well as consistent and frequent noise, interruptions and other similar distractions.  It may be necessary for a team member in this position to enter a shop environment where they may be exposed to loud noises from operating machinery, cold temperatures, and chemicals and vapors.
