Position Summary:


Working with minimal supervision, this position selects and applies standard engineering principles and procedures in the design and development of new product/production process or the modification of existing product/production processes.  Makes decisions on engineering problems and methods having an important effect on major company programs and customer’s needs.  Supports new product releases by designing and implementing new and/or modifications to tooling, fixtures, and machinery as required.  May be assigned to multiple large projects simultaneously.


Essential Functions:


  1. May be assigned project responsibility for projects involving tooling budgets up to $250,000 and potential annual sales of up to $5,000,000.
  2. May coordinate multiple large projects simultaneously.
  3. Coordinates internal company activities related to design projects and works closely with individuals on the team to execute project activities.
  4. Works with customer’s project engineers on technical details.
  5. May be assigned engineering maintenance responsibilities for major product lines.
  6. Hands-on work on shop floor as job requires.
  7. Responsible for prompt and regular attendance as scheduled.
  8. May participate in the Warn Automotive selection process as necessary.
  9. Accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in assigned area. Responsible for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including a self-assessment and report to management.
  10. Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned area.
  11. Work safely and without injury.
    Required Education and/or Experience:
  1. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing or related Engineering discipline required.
  2. One or more years of hands-on engineering or product design is required.
  3. One or more years experience in a high volume, manufacturing environment is preferred.
  4. Professional engineering experience preferred.
    Required Qualifications:
  1. Working knowledge of CAD programs – preferably SDRC I-DEAS.
  2. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  3. Working knowledge of WARN Quality Tools (SPC, GDT, FMEA, DFA/M, etc.).
  4. Working knowledge of FEA (finite element analysis) preferred.
  5. Working knowledge of various rapid prototyping techniques preferred.
  6. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers and visitors.
  8. Ability to effectively problem-solve.
  9. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  10. Ability to facilitate activities necessary to a project’s completion.

    Mathematical Skills:
    Must have mathematical skills equivalent to those required under degree requirement.
    Physical and Visual Activities:
    Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, balancing, stooping, reaching, handling, feeling, acuity-far, acuity-near, depth perception and field of vision.  See all colors.  Frequently communicate with employees and customers.  Must be able to exchange accurate information.  Frequently move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, attend meetings, etc.  Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
    Physical Demands:
    May require a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.  May require lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance.
    Environment/Atmospheric Conditions:
    Must be able to work in an office environment as well as a shop environment as job duties require.  May be exposed to loud operating machinery, cold temperatures, chemicals, and vapors.
    Machines, Tools Equipment, Software:
    Personal computer, fax machine, copy machine, other office equipment, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint.  May minimally operate shop equipment such as assembly presses, manual and CNC machines, basic hand tools.
