OPW Vehicle Wash Solutions (VWS), a division of OPW and global leader in the vehicle wash equipment manufacturing industry, has an immediate need for an Engineering Director. This position leads Engineering for a $100M business unit represented by the PDQ and Belanger brands, which specialize in developing innovative, high quality products for the vehicle wash industry.

 

Reporting to the OPW VWS VP/GM, the Engineering Director leads a department of 20+ associates with three direct reports, with responsibility spanning New Product Development, Life Cycle Engineering, and Technology Architecture. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical proficiency, program management ability, and will have experience identifying and implementing best practices.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sets vision and strategic direction for NPD and Life Cycle teams consisting of Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers
  • Provides direction to team based on general policies and management guidance and ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget
  • Provides critical input into product strategy and roadmap development
  • Monitors and interprets technology and industry trends as a means of developing inputs into strategy and team resource planning
  • Sets performance standards for Engineering Department and provides coaching/mentoring to support development of talent within department.
  • Partners with Product Management to determine project charters, product specifications, product positioning, and pricing.
  • Leads the Product Planning Group (PPG) to assess and manage execution priority of Engineering projects
  • Generates and manages annual departmental budgets.
  • Supports NPD and Life Cycle Department leaders in determining resource allocation
  • Understands relevant regulatory / certification-related requirements and incorporates compliance into designs and budgets
  • Utilizes best practice engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading Engineering teams
  • Strong leadership skills with the proven ability to achieve results through teams.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a track record of identifying ideal solutions to problems at both a strategic and functional level.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacturability concepts resulting in cost savings and increased manufacturing efficiency.
  • Ability to develop detailed process plans using applicable tools (PFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Safety and Efficacy Reviews)

 

Desired Characteristics:

  • Design Engineering experience with automation equipment with embedded software
  • Advanced Degree in Engineering or PE Certification
  • Experience with CAD and structural and/or fluids analysis
  • Project management experience including development and detailed use of project execution plans
  • Understanding of UL, CE, CSA, and other certification requirements
