Belanger Inc, is part of OPW VWS, a leader in the Vehicle Wash Manufacturing industry. We have an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team supporting our production facilities in Northville and Novi. Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, this position is responsible for developing and improving manufacturing functions and layouts for all Belanger operations such as machining, welding, and assembly.


Key Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Prepare economic justification for capital equipment procurement and installation.
  • Prepare plant layouts and determine process flow.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes for assembly, welding and machining.
  • Determine and provide the infrastructure needed to achieve conformity to product requirements.
  • Provide manufacturing design support to R&D for manufacturability and cost reduction.
  • Assume or assign the Project Leader position during the manufacturing preparation stage.
  • Organize transition of new products from R&D to production.
  • Ensure Assembly and Shipping Work Instructions are created.
  • Supervise the design and coordinate the completion of Assembly fixtures.
  • Assist in training personnel in proper Assembly techniques.
  • Prepare pilot production runs.
  • Approve part releases for Manufacturing.
  • Establish testing procedures and quality checks for production equipment.
  • Set up required OSHA programs and safety inspection reports.
  • Design and implement storage and material handling systems for production.
  • Coordinate with the Product Engineering Department for smooth transitions of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), and effectively communicate these changes to the employees.
  • Promote and participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Observe and enforce all safety rules and PPE requirements applicable to the area.


Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Industrial Technology. Internal candidates with equivalent demonstrated work experience may also be considered.



  • Computer proficiency in a Windows environment is required, preferably with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes associated with the production of engineered products.
  • Must possess strong working knowledge of manufacturing materials and construction technologies including welding and machining.
  • Ability to estimate manufactured parts cost and assembly time
  • Must possess effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Blueprint reading skills.
  • Knowledge of assembly methods used in all areas is required.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.


Desired Characteristics:

  • 2+ years of CAD experience
  • Prior experience with ERP/MRP or similar manufacturing software
  • Knowledge and application of ISO standards in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with implementing and driving Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and environmental standards.
  • Electrical testing experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to product, process, and quality systems.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process, and quality system.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Verify the implementation of solutions.
  • Control further processing, delivery or installation of non-conforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to normal office conditions like telephone, personal computer, reports and files.  The employee will also be exposed to normal conditions of a manufacturing facility.   The employee will be regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee will be required to stand for long periods of time.  The employee will use his/her hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and climb or balance and reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee may frequently lift, carry or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.  When working on machinery, employee will bend, stoop and crouch on a regular basis and constantly move about to coordinate work.  The employee is required to regularly set up, adjust, assemble, control, test and operate machinery.
